I heard some folks have trouble finding the place, idk why. You can clearly see it when driving on glisan either direction. Its one of the shops between the baskin robbins and the laundromat.
Customer service is fantastic as well!
I ordered the Lo Mein with shrimp and honestly it was very satisfying and tasty.
If you leave near this restaurant, you should stop by and give it a chance. You will not be disappointed. I will definitely be coming back for more.
Okay so I had them attempt to try to double fry my orange chicken.. she totally tried and it was noticeable. The orange chicken I’d rate a 4.5/10 because the fact that the waitress/cashier heard me out and even watched a YouTube video on Double Fry and was super patient. I know that the instruction to fry and then fry again was probably lost in translation but they did modify from 50/50 Corn Starch & Flour to just Corn Starch all in the attempt to try. Now that’s good service! I must mention that the lady that was the cashier and waitress at the same time had the most beautiful smile the whole time I was there!
Okay so here’s where my Four Star Review derives from: The Shrimp Fried Rice. The shrimp fried rice is where it’s at! I’m from around St. Louis way and we don’t play about Chinese food and I tell you what… their rice is dirty without being dirty, if that makes sense. 9.5/10
IMHO, I would advise to only get the rice and make it your fried rice spot to pick-up from.
My family and I, including my kids and my elderly mother and father-in-law, were so impressed with the quality of the Americanized Chinese food at Mr. Chen’s. It was genuinely some of the best we’ve had, and honestly, better than many options in Gresham. What really stood out was the incredible value – it’s such a welcome surprise to find a place where six people can enjoy such delicious, high-quality food for under $100 and still have leftovers! We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and agreed it’s definitely a place we’d happily return to support.
Beyond the delicious food and great prices, the service was truly exceptional. Our server, who we learned is also part-owner, was incredibly kind and accommodating. She genuinely seemed to enjoy having us there, making us feel almost like part of the family with her warm nature and helpful recommendations. We also really appreciated how clean the restaurant was – it’s always reassuring to see that level of care.
The new owners have only been there for three months, having moved from Depoe Bay to provide their daughter with better opportunities. This isn’t a big corporation; it’s a family working incredibly hard to revitalize a restaurant, and their dedication shines through.
In these challenging times for small businesses, especially restaurants, their effort and commitment are truly commendable. They offer delicious food, excellent service, a welcoming atmosphere, and fantastic value. If you’re looking for a positive dining experience and a way to support a hardworking family right here in Gresham, Mr. Chen’s might be a great option. They also offer delivery through DoorDash and Uber Eats for those who prefer staying closer to home.
Below are just a few pictures taken before everyone eagerly dug into their food.
