Today was my first time coming here. It’s black owned. Everything is made in house. I will never eat a burger anywhere else. They have so many desserts. I settled on the bread pudding and I was not disappointed. Absolutely phenomenal. The customer service was extraordinary. My new go to.

My first experience here. Here’s what I got:
Meatloaf – tough & dry even with the little gravy
Mashed potatoes – instant
String beans – good well seasoned
Cabbage – overcooked funny taste
Yams – mildly sweet heavy cinnamon
Mac n cheese – very good
Roll – sister Schubert yeast roll… I actually expected a soft roll with my meatloaf and that was a mini hockey puck

Sweet potato pie – no flavor taste like lard, cinnamon and white sugar.

After reading the reviews I couldn’t wait to try this place. The prices weren’t bad, but maybe they aren’t used to making mass portions taste good.

I LOVE this establishment!!! I’ve been in a few times in person but they don’t have dine in option. Maybe … soon The staff is always super friendly! I can’t speak enough on how much I appreciate the effort to protect the to go orders. Thank you for providing extraordinary service. The food tastes amazing and the additional courtesy with online orders is outstanding!

I happened upon Mr. B’s, a soul food spot nestled in Chester after attending an art show at the nearby arts center. It was easy to find parking right outside the entrance. Although it looked like it is designed for dine-in, it is takeout only. They have ample spaces for you to wait for your order and it stayed busy with lots of walk-ins and pre-orders. The staff was very friendly and there were many items to choose from so I took suggestions and ordered the catfish and the fried chicken. Each entree came with two sides and I ordered the string beans, mac and cheese, collard greens and the yams. I also fell for the dessert display and ordered a slice of plain pound cake.

What I liked was that the catfish was fried like I prefer–fried not too hard and not too soft. It was not too salty and golden, with a great texture to the catfish. Next time I’ll be sure to order an extra piece. I did not like the mac and cheese as I prefer a more custard-like finish, but don’t let that discourage you from ordering. I did find the string beans to be slightly oversalted but they were not overcooked.

The fried chicken white I had for dinner and it was fantastic. I enjoyed both the collard greens and the yams and will definitely order those again.

The pound cake tasted just like my Grandma used to make it, same weight, same sweetness and a perfect crusting. It would go great á la mode as well.

The packaging was very high-quality for takeout, there were no juice spills and it traveled well.

I will definitely return when I am in the area!

The people were warm, friendly and accommodating. The location is apparently for catering, delivery, and Take-out. The server mentioned they have another location (maybe two more) and I’m guessing may be for dine-in. The catering menu had great prices, in my opinion.

The food was hot, flavorful, and great portion sizes. I got the Turkey and Dressing with Carrot Souffle and Collard Greens. The carrot souffle was a bit too sweet, but otherwise well made. The bathroom was clean. I’ll definitely be ordering again.

Okay. I tried to avoid giving this black business 1 star; however enough time has passed for Mr. B’s and/or Uber Eats to rectify the mistake and refund me for the item (Beef Short Ribs meal) that they notified me (and the delivery driver) that they don’t have. They told the delivery driver they would refund me for the item since I didn’t request/approve a replacement. There are clearly 3 containers instead of 4 in that bag. This is FRAUD and predatory to advertise items on your menu knowing you don’t have them available, yet still charging customers for. ESPECIALLY in this economy. No good comes to bad business such as this.
I also included a picture of their “chopped steak” which is just a frozen beef patty with no seasoning and tasted just like the container it came in. I left a review yesterday but took it back, because the owner (somehow) responded to my review rather quickly…but didn’t put the same energy into rightfully giving me the refund of almost $30.00.

The fact that they charge MORE on uber eats menu ($27.49) vs. their online/in-store price ($24.99) is another red flag about this businesses predatory behavior. I am extremely offended. I will continue to support black businesses but NEVER this one.

Made a quick trip to Mr. B’s to pick up dinner. There is no seating available to dine in but you can stop in and place an order to go or place an order online to be picked up. The prices are pretty reasonable with the portions being proportionate to the costs. I had the fried pork chop dinner with greens and macaroni and cheese. I have to say that the pork chop, a thick center cut, was seasoned perfectly and fried just right. The greens and mac and cheese were OK. For dessert, I had the pineapple coconut cake which was good. It was nice and moist. Mr. B’s has a nice variety of menu items, including desserts, so I will definitely be going back.

As a local workaholic, I’m always on the hunt for the best dining experiences, and recently, I had the pleasure of trying out Mr. B’s Take Out, a local soul food restaurant that has been generating quite a buzz. While I enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and friendly staff, I have to say that the food was just okay and could use a little more perfecting.

First of all, the cozy vibes at Mr. B’s Take Out are absolutely delightful. The restaurant has a welcoming feel that makes you feel right at home, with alot of natural lighting and friendly staff who make you feel like family. However, while the atmosphere was inviting, I couldn’t help but feel a little let down by the food.

Don’t get me wrong, the food at Mr. B’s Take Out wasn’t bad by any means, but it didn’t quite live up to the hype. Some dishes were a hit while others were a miss, and the consistency of the dishes could use some improvement. However, there were a few standouts on the menu, like the deliciously creamy carrot souffle and the mouth-watering desserts.

Despite the inconsistencies in the food, the friendly staff and cozy atmosphere made my experience at Mr. B’s Take Out enjoyable. With a little more attention to perfecting their dishes and maintaining consistency, I believe this restaurant could truly live up to its potential and keep the crowds coming back for more.

I grew up in central Florida in the home of a mother who can cook from scratch. I tried Mr. B’s on a whim as I was looking for some soul food and didn’t feel like cooking. I ordered smothered pork chop ( you only receive one) yams and the Mac and cheese. I can honesty say the meal was unremarkable. Thus far I have experienced Mr. B’s and Family Secret and Family Secret tops my list.
