This hidden gem is everything I expected it to be and more! The food came out fresh, hot, full of flavor and tasted like I was back with my family during the holidays! I had the turkey plate and my husband had the fish and chips!

Turkey was juicy and flavorful. The dressing was soft and I could taste the care they put into it to make it. The cabbage was out of this world good!! Cabbage was cooked and seasoned to perfection! The gravy had the perfect consistency of flavor and texture. Then they had the decency to have the BEST cornbread I have ever laid eyes on! Cornbread was soft, sweet and sealed the whole deal!!!!! I am beyond satisfied with this place.

Fish and chips were fried to perfection as well! My husband had this plate and mentioned how well the batter was seasoned and fried without being full of grease. It was absolutely delicious as you can tell from my picture lol I wasn’t able to get a before picture of his plate. The homemade tartar sauce was on point as well. We will be back again!

If I could give this place 10 GOLD STARS I would!

Please be patient when you go as the food is made to order! Which is way better than having my food waiting for me!

Great staff!

Finally made it out for Turkey Thursday at Mr. A OK’s Kitchen on Walzem. Been seeing posts before and just waited for a Thursday off to make it here.

I had fried okra and mashed potatoes with my turkey plate. Damn! That okra was fried to perfection! Oh man, it was very crispy and very good! My partner had mashed potatoes and yams. I tried the yams and they were delicious as well. And let me tell you, that turkey was so tender and totally delicious. I really wanted to try the stuffing as well and it did not disappoint, especially topped with the turkey gravy.

We dined in but they also have to go as well. Glad we finallly made it here. Give them a try if you can. Delicious food.

Honestly, I walked in expecting a quick grab-and-go so I could hustle back to my desk and work through lunch like usual. But Mr A Ok’s Kitchen had other plans for me.

The moment I stepped inside, the friendliest ladies greeted me and were super patient l while I stared at the menu like it might talk back. I landed on the 6-piece chicken wing meal with two sides and what I can only describe as the sweetest cornbread of my life.

The vibes were cozy, laid-back, and just plain peaceful. My order came out hot and smelling like seasoned happiness, and I made a decision to not eat at my keyboard.

So for the first work lunch this year, I put my phone down. No scrolling. No emails. Just me and 6 fried chicken wings that demanded respect.

Those fried chicken wings? Gave me that crispy crunchy sound with every bite AND the meat was still juicy. The mac and cheese? Soooo gooey and cheesy, that I forgot I can’t have that much dairy (YOLO).

NOW that cornbread?!?! Best cornbread I’ve ever had. Forget a wedding cake! I want three tiers of that.

I’m officially a fan and will be back with my family, because I saw banana bread on the menu and didn’t shoot my shot.

I’m coming for you.
Prepare the back of the house ️

Best soul food in San Antonio thus far!! I’ve been looking since I got here from Memphis and hands down this is it! It was by happenstance that I went to this place and I’m so very glad I did. The best thing on the menu are the soul rolls, MYYYY GODT!!! Everything else I’ve had, except the fried ribs, is good but them soul rolls are a staple for me. Customer service is always friendly and their cooks and servers are nice as well. If you’re looking for good soul food you GOTTA try them. OMS you won’t be disappointed.

The burger was just a burger. Nothing fancy or extravagant. Slightly over seasoned. The fries had no crunch. The banana pudding, THAT REALLY PISSED ME OFF. U have pudding at bottom and wafers on top. That’s pudding and wafers. My guy had the meatloaf , macaroni, and a side order of yams. He gives a 4.5 out of 10 and I give a 4 out of 10. Macaroni was disgusting, the cheese wasn’t even melted. The meatloaf was over seasoned, and the yams were straight out the can. Customer service was great and the restaurant wasn’t too bad. Just please do better and be more consistent with the food

The young lady at the register was a sweetheart. This my first time in and she had a lot of patience with me and all my 50 questions. She even talked me right into getting the Sweet Potato Pound Cake (which wasn’t hard lol) it was good and moist. All the food that I got was good, especially those egg rolls. Go check them out, it’s amazing. You will not be disappointed.

The service was excellent. The food came out fast. Plus the prices were very reasonable. It was the first time me and my wife have visited. Will definitely go back for more items on the menu. I had the Catfish with Mac and Cheese & Green Beans. My wife had the Meatloaf with Mac and Cheese & Cabbage. All of it was full of flavor. Plus the Soul Rolls.

Update: We dined in here for lunch last Sunday with friends. I had an order of liver and onions, mashed potatoes and gravy, fried okra and cornbread. Hubby had Chicken Fried Steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, yams, cabbage and cornbread. Our friends had the Fried Catfish Platter with cabbage, yams and cornbread and the Fried Pork Chop entree with macaroni and cheese, cabbage and cornbread. For appetizers, we had four orders of the Soul Rolls! Food was excellent! Ample food portions with great value for the money. Great customer service. Yes! We will definitely return again and would highly recommend you stop in and dine at Mr. A-OK’s Restaurant! They have some of the best homemade meatloaf, liver and onions with gravy and cornbread around!!!
UPDATE: Visited here again a few days ago with a friend for a lunch dine-in. The customer service and food here is excellent!!!

This is our favorite place for down home tasting cooking like Grandma used to make! We tried the Rib plate from here and it was excellent. The sides we got were greens and
fries. Our go to favorite is the tender grilled liver and onions with gravy, fried okra and greens. The cornbread is moist, sweet and very tasty. We order from here often and have never been disappointed. The food is always freshly made, well seasoned and very tasty. Would definitely recommend and will certainly continue to return.
