Loved the patio atmosphere out back for a nice dinner for our girls trip. The fish tacos were amazing I almost regret filling up on the chips and dip tray just because I was so full and happy. Everything tasted perfect and just what you would expect out of a nice Mexican place. Great service and great time.

Mountain madre is a great Mexican style restaurant downtown Asheville. It offers a little something for everyone with a unique flare on Mexican flavors. We enjoyed the queso and the guacamole was extremely fresh tasting. The taco portions were large, two tacos felt filling. Server was very friendly.

Soooooo good. Tried three salsas. Marg flight. Chorizo avocado. All three hot sauces.
Everything was great.
The service was too notch and the place is beautiful. Will definitely return.
Went back. Holy moly carne asada. Probably going to be my most ordered dish moving forward. Sad the meal was over, it was so good.

After a historic ghost walk and walking around downtown, my friends and I were starving. We stopped by Mountain Madre and were so glad we did. The loaded nachos were HUGE and delicious. We added chicken. Only thing that could’ve made it better for me would have been adding jalapenos. But everyone in my group might not have wanted that. The margaritas were also yummy and I would stop here again for sure.

Ordered the pork belly tacos, but it’s just pulled pork. Service and atmosphere pretty mid. The only Mexican element of the meal was the Modelo beer. These gringos sell “queso” for $14

If you’re ever in Asheville, North Carolina, do yourself a favor and stop by Mountain Madre Mexican Kitchen—this place is a gem!
From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The vibe was cozy but lively, with a great balance of comfort and energy.
Now, onto the food—absolutely delicious! The chimichanga was a highlight: perfectly crisp on the outside, packed with flavorful fillings, and topped with fresh, crunchy slaw. It was sitting on a bed of rich sauces that pulled the whole dish together beautifully. The enchilada plate was equally satisfying—generously portioned with a deep, savory sauce and served alongside vibrant Mexican rice, pico de gallo, and a sweet and tangy corn salad that added the perfect freshness.
And the margaritas? Incredible. We tried a couple—one classic and one berry-based—and both were beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The rims were perfectly salted (or spiced), and the drinks had just the right balance of tartness and sweetness without being too sugary.
Mountain Madre is the kind of spot you remember long after the meal’s over. Great food, great drinks, and genuinely great people. Highly recommend!

We visited this place on one of our very first dates and we came back this year again and it was very different from what we can remember. If you’re expecting authentic Mexican this is not it. It’s very gentrified, and alright. The drinks were okay as well. The staff was amazing although our waitress could’ve been al little happier to work there. This place is special too us and hope it doesn’t keep changing so much.
We remembered it being more authentic back in 2021.

Although we happened to go after a huge rainstorm we were still offered a seat outside. Unknowingly to us, there was plenty of seating but it was literally puddled with water. The hostess said she’d come back to wipe down the table and chairs. We then sat down and waited 15 minutes before we asked if we had a waitress. Street tacos were OK. Cocktails looked cool but we weren’t given a menu and shot from the hip. We went with the sampler. My husband had to drink 3 of them because they were smoking hot.
Tip: Look at your table spot before you accept the seat!

The food is fresh and super delicious, especially the vegan tacos (with grilled avocado and homemade slaw) served with rice and black beans. Not greasy. The Burrito Bowl is also delicious. Only challenge is the parking but that’s a universal problem in Asheville.

Mountain Madre in Asheville is hands-down one of the best Mexican spots in town. The food, drinks, and overall vibe make it a must-visit whether you’re a local or just passing through. I highly recommend the burrito bowl with steak — it’s perfectly seasoned, generously portioned, and packed with flavor. The steak is tender and cooked to perfection, and every bite hits with a balanced mix of spice, texture, and freshness.
The quesadilla is another standout — crispy on the outside, melty on the inside, and filled with quality ingredients that don’t skimp. It’s simple, but executed at a level that makes it way more satisfying than your average quesadilla.
Now let’s talk drinks — the margarita flight was excellent. Each flavor was unique and well-crafted, not too sweet, not too sour, just spot-on. It’s a fun way to try different blends without having to commit to just one.
The atmosphere is warm and energetic without being too loud, and the service was friendly and attentive. You can tell the staff genuinely care about the guest experience. Mountain Madre delivers on every level — flavor, service, and ambiance. This is definitely a place I’ll be coming back to. Five stars all around.
