The restaurant was booked and busy on a Wednesday night which speaks to its popularity. The interior is gorgeous and truly emulates that of a traditional Chinese village with the dimly lit lanterns and wooden architecture.

We were seated quickly since we had reservations using Yelp and the host walked us to our table in the back. The seats weren’t the most comfortable but the table was spacious for just two people. The host came back with a delicious pickled veggie appetizer and some tea.

It was my first time here, so I was excited to try a lot of items since I don’t have authentic Szechuan cuisine very often. My most anticipated item was the most popular, the swing pork belly, which came with an addictingly good garlic sauce.

My favorite dish, however, was the green spicy whole fish. The fish was tender and delicate but balanced well with the sauce.

I also really enjoyed the grilled beef ribs, since it’s served like Peking duck, where you build your own wrap. It didn’t come with bao buns, like pictured on the menu, but the meat was tender and the whole dish was flavorful nonetheless.

The ma-la boiled beef is another solid choice for an entree, which I would choose over the la-zi chicken.

We finished off the meal with the black sesame shaved ice with snowy cream, and I would say it satisfied my sweet tooth, but I wish the bowl wasn’t as shallow because I wanted more.

Overall, the waiters were nice, we didn’t wait long for the food, and it’s a great place for large groups since there’s plenty of large tables and even some private dining rooms.

This restaurant is so good. I took my parents and they were impressed. The swing pork belly was so tender with amazing sauce. My dad said he hadn’t eaten such a good flavor like that in a while.

I liked the short ribs as they were tender and it was unique to wrap it like Peking duck . The fish was tender . The veggies were fresh . The ambience is lovely and there is a koi pond out front . Overall great dining experience.

Not your average Sichuan restaurant
Mountain House in Rowland Heights = traditional decor, cozy aesthetic, and the perfect setup for family dinners or friendly get-togethers.
La-zi Chicken and Ma-po Tofu brought the heat ️ ️
Grilled Beef Ribs, Teppan Shrimp, Country Braised Pork, and Long Beans w/ Eggplant kept it balanced.

Spicy or not, this spot hits

Sichuan cuisine with a side of village vibes, that’s what you’ll find here.
We love that they have such nice variety of unique dishes here, blending traditional with modern.

The beef rib dish is served like they do Peking Duck, and the meat is so tender. The mapo tofu has more of a fermented soy taste with the spice and was so comforting. The swinging pork with cucumber was something we’ve never seen at other restaurants before and it was really tasty. The spicy fish we ordered was true too Sichuan fashion and made us sweat. The black sesame snow dessert was the perfect way to end the meal and cool off.

You order on a touch screen, and they were really prompt at bringing everything out for us. We went when they first opened at 4pm so it was less crowded, but soon became packed so there def are longer waiting times in the evenings. We already plan to go back to try more!

Love its grand entrance, lucky koi pond, and spacious private seating – even a beautifully designed pavilion – total luxury vibes without breaking the bank.

Spicy lovers, don’t miss the Szechuan lamb spine and spicy boiled fish – dangerously addictive!

Bringing the family? No worries! Beef & egg soup, braised pork belly, and stir-fried veggies satisfy all generations.

As people say, “A restaurant that sparks conversation makes the meal even better.” This is a spot guaranteed to impress everyone important in your life.

We’ve come to Mountain House several times for food, and we absolutely love it. The food is consistently great, and the service is wonderful. Our waitresses, Sherry and Serene, were incredibly helpful and friendly, especially with recommending dishes.

This time, we ordered two cold fish dishes, three main entrées, and one fried rice. Everything was delicious, but my favorites were the double-cooked pork and the chili frog—both were outstanding.

We’ll definitely be coming back again!

This place has been around for a few years, but to me it’s still one of the most stunning Sichuan restaurants in LA. The wooden eaves, stone lanterns, running water, bamboo curtains, koi, and warm lighting all come together to create a soft and elegant Eastern atmosphere. Whenever I want to take family or friends somewhere pretty for Sichuan food, this is always the choice. It’s a more established restaurant, and their service has always been reliable, especially when dining with elders, which feels very reassuring.

I ordered the peppercorn beef, tofu with duck blood and pork brain, pork trotter soup, spicy rabbit, chilled pork belly slices, spicy fried chicken, and osmanthus ice jelly. A few dishes really stood out to me. Their green Sichuan pepper series is excellent, and the spicy duck blood pot is also great if you enjoy layered flavors. The rabbit here is marinated with pickled chiles, which removes any gamey taste. The chilled pork belly is a classic dish and the dipping sauce is incredibly good. The ice jelly is the perfect pretty little dessert after a spicy meal.

Overall, it’s a place that feels presentable for hosting guests and the service is genuinely thoughtful. They bring hot tea as soon as you sit down and pour it for you. It feels rare now, when most places just drop off a jug of water and walk away. Before taking your order, they check your spice tolerance, and throughout the meal they often come by to switch out plates or check in. That subtle sense of care is so heartwarming. There are many reviews online, but you really need to visit once to understand why people love it.

2/15/2026 – This Szechuan Chinese restaurant deliveries a great value for the money – most dishes’ price are reasonable.

Yes, the desserts’ portion is small at either $10 or $12 each.

Ambiences are great – I love the Koi ponds.

Been hearing friends rave about Chuanshanjia forever, and I finally made it here today! The place was packed during weekend lunch — it was so popular we even had to wait a bit, which just made me even more excited.

The moment I walked in, the décor instantly transported me back to China. The familiar Chinese-style vibe and all the Sichuan elements made it feel like I was stepping into a cozy spot at home.

The servers were also super patient and friendly. They walked us through each dish one by one, so even for a first-time visit, there was zero stress about ordering. Really felt taken care of!

This is an high end Chinese restaurant featuring SiChuang dishes and I love it so much. The decoration is pretty fancy. The service was really good compared to other Chinese restaurants. A lot of different spicy dishes and we love dinning in.
