It is very difficult to find a good reliable sushi place in Miami, but this place is one of them. Its owners focused on giving people an opportunity to experience authentic Japanese cuisine accompanied by a great service. Restaurant has 3 main zones for all occasions – classic table service, a bar area and a sushi bar where all the sushi are made in front of you by a Japanese sushi chef Shin and his team. Back kitchen handles everything else on the menu.
We’ve been there already 3 times since the opening and tried big part of the whole menu. Everything made from fresh products, tastes great and plated beautifully. This is not the place where you can get all those crazy rolls which have no connection to real Japanese food, but you can enjoy some very classic and very authentic items, like a roll with pickled plums for example.
All servers are trained well and very knowledgable. We got help from Jordan – he explained us all menu items, recommended to our taste and made sure we’re not slammed with all the orders coming to the table at the same time (but if you want it to be chaotic – just ask).
Every time we visited Mottai – we felt like VIP. I can definitely recommend this place to everyone. Come visit, see yourself and take with you home a small origami made by chef Shin in support of the restaurant’s success.

An absolutely phenomenal dining experience from start to finish. This was hands-down one of the best Japanese meals I’ve had in a long time. Every dish was beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and packed with flavor — you can truly taste the quality and care in the kitchen.
My server, Jordan, was outstanding. Attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely warm and professional. Jordan made the entire experience feel special and effortless.
The service didn’t stop there — the GM personally checked in, which speaks volumes about the level of hospitality here. They were gracious, welcoming, and clearly take pride in both the food and the guest experience.
The ambiance is stunning — elegant, modern, and comfortable — perfect for anything from a special occasion to a solo treat-yourself dinner. Every member of the staff we interacted with was friendly, polished, and attentive. You can tell this team works together seamlessly.
From the perfectly cooked steak to the beautifully crafted sushi and decadent dessert, everything was exceptional. This restaurant delivers not just a meal, but a full experience.

Mottai is a lovely new restaurant in Coral Gables! We were served by Christopher who was very attentive and passionate about each dish that was served. Everything was delicious but the dishes I keep thinking about are:
1. The Crab Roll (ordered it twice!)
2. The Black Garlic Chicken
3. Hamachi Crudo
We had the mango dessert (not included in my pictures) and it was also delicious! I will be back for the crab roll and to try the other desserts they had to offer.
Lastly, the lighting of the restaurant was great. It wasn’t dark and it was bright enough to be able to see the menu and be able to see the beautiful decor.

Nice place, sophisticated elegant design, good food. I made a reservation 5 days in advance and they gave me a seat at the bar which I didn’t like and there were unoccupied tables. They took a long time to attend to me I guess because it’s new.

Definitely 5 stars! We were a family of 7 adults and 2 grandbabies (4 and 2) and had to make 2 reservations. When I called to try to combine the reservations or try to get 2 tables together, they told me they were fully booked and it may not possible. When we arrived, Aria, the host, was very courteous and patient. Not only she was able to combine the reservations, got us a private booth where the little ones could be better controlled.
Restaurant: elegant, sophisticated venue. Beautifully decorated with very comfortable seating.
Food: we ordered several dishes: several types of sushi, rock shrimp, Japanese eggplant, chicken, mushroom, rice, noodle and desserts. Everything was exquisite from the presentation, freshness to the flavor.
