As someone who lived in France for 15 years, I can confidently say that this is as authentic as it gets. I’ve seen a few complaints about the higher price point, but the moment the food hits your taste buds, it simply doesn’t matter anymore. To be completely honest, Motier serves the best crème brûlée I’ve ever had in my life—perfectly balanced in sweetness and flavor.
Beyond the incredible food, the staff is exceptional. I’ve rarely met people so polite, kind, and genuinely welcoming. They were patient, extremely helpful, and the chef himself was both respectful and fascinating to speak with.
Overall, I would give Motier more than five stars if I could. This little café exceeded my expectations in every way and was absolutely worth the hour-long drive from home. Give Motier a try—you’ll be in for pure greatness.

Môtier offers French food that is even tastier than the food in France! While the preparation of the beef, poultry, and seafood adheres perfectly to French techniques, the taste of the food has a bit of a twist that elevates it to another level. The owner and his family are very attentive to the customers. The atmosphere is cozy, so calling to make reservations for lunch is advisable. The hot chocolate is the perfect combination of a thick European version and a sweet, tastier American version—another example of how Motier makes great things even better.

This place was absolutely amazing. My husband and I dropped in for a impromptu Sunday brunch. It was our first time here, but I’d read such great things about the place I had to see for myself.
I ordered the Croque Madame and Quiche Lorraine. My husband had the Croque Monsieur. All entres were absolutely delicious !! We had several desserts but the Chocolate Tarte really stood out…. just unbelievably rich, creamy, and decadent.
We will definitely be back as I believe there are probably no bad options. The chef seemed to be a true culinary artist and passionate about his creations. During this trip, they had the “Floating Island” dessert which looked like a really treat. Can’t wait to visit again!!!

Delicious food!! Service was very courteous and accommodating. They arranged for a table for us though we walked in with no reservation (reservation is strongly recommended) . Diego was genuinely welcoming. The pastries we tried was so good, the opera cake just amazing . My son had the croque motier and French onion soup and sister had the omelette , both cleaned their plate up ☺️. Thank you to the management for accommodating us . Lovely experience

Motier in Clifton, VA, is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates authentic French pastries and cuisine. They specialize in classic French treats like croissants, tarts, fresh bread, and indulgent baked goods, and some made with 100% French butter. We decided to stop by for coffee and dessert after a nearby brunch, and I can confidently say that their pastries are among the finest in the entire DMV area!
Made with Illy brand beans, the coffee was perfectly robust and full-bodied, and paired excellently with the pastries we chose. The service was outstanding, and the attentive staff enhanced our overall dining experience. We’re already planning our return, especially to try the almond croissant, which the team highly recommends.
The Cro-Fin (a delightful blend of croissant and muffin) filled with Nutella and blueberry jam was fluffy and absolutely delicious. The canelé was moist with a soft interior, the madeleine was exceptional, the financier was wonderfully gooey, and the chocolate brioche had a pudding-like center that was nothing short of incredible. Each of these pastries struck the perfect balance of sweetness, making them truly unforgettable. I can’t rave enough about the quality of everything we tried!

I was greeted with friendliness. My double espresso was delicious. I really appreciated the glass of water, which was brought without request. The pain chocolate was just okay. Good flavors, but the texture was just a little off. I would like to come here for lunch some day.

We tried four different dishes and they were all excellent. The restaurant staff was nice and the place itself was clean. French food at different places were always bad and too salty. We had croque monsieur, croque madame, omlette, and onion soup, and they were all excellent. I highly recommend the onion soup. Almond croissant and baguette is highly recommended. Their cappuccino is also worth trying.
