A fine-dining restaurant offering a £90 set menu per person. Many dishes explored the same core ingredients from different angles: duck breast, duck liver, and duck pâté; shallot, roasted leek, and onion; beetroot in endless variations. You get the idea. No weak courses, and the desserts were genuinely delightful.

Went here for a family 60th Anniversary wedding meal. Its the first time I have been and it started very well with a warm welcome and drinks to start we was taken to the table and then started out taster menu which ive never had before and when we was served each course it was described in detail what we had in front of us we also had wine to go with the courses as well, the service was excellent the food was tasty well presented and just the right amount for you to try, we was not rushed in any way and the atmosphere in the place was very warm and welcoming, could do with some decent coffee though. (coffeemasters). Overall I was very impressed with everything ans hopefully will return again to try something with another special occasion.

We had the 7 course tasting menu and wine pairing. Outstanding food in general (although we didn’t like one of the snacks and the duck course wasn’t to our taste). The beef course and two desserts were the highlights – superb. Well chosen wines to accompany. Initially found the place a little stuffy and lacking atmosphere but once full it felt more buzzy. Good service, never felt hurried.

Wonderful evening. The food, service and atmosphere were perfect. Lots of variety in the taster menu and plenty of food (even for someone with a big appetite). Definitely feels worthy of a Michelin star.

We were fortunate to be in a position of being able to treat ourselves to a once in a lifetime event; fine dining in a Michelin starred restaurant.
We were the only diners that night which meant that we had private service. The service was personal and excellent. We elected to try the taster menu @ £85 per head for 7 dishes.
The food itself was nice but not outstanding with the exception of the beef dish which was delicious. I’ve included the menu and some sample dishes on the night.
Would we go again – no. The food was lovely but the evening was breathtakingly expensive paying over £12 for an alcohol free G&T and a mandatory service charge of £32 for the 2 of us. We had little change from £300 and whilst we expected to pay a lot more for the ‘occasion’, we were shocked. Does it need to be prohibitively expensive ? Yes you are paying for fine dining and yes we went for the taster menu but I’m sure they would attract more customers if they were a bit more grounded and realistic with the pricing.
£32 service charge for 2 people on a quiet night ?
Finally, we hoped that ‘chef’ would make an appearance on the night given we were the only customers. How was your meal ?, where have you travelled from ?. Sadly no, we never saw ‘chef’ which we think was a missed opportunity on their behalf.

As a party of 3 we ate here last Saturday for lunch. We were really well looked after by Camilla.

We each had the 5 course tasting menu and the food was absolutely exceptional. The wine offering too was also brilliant.

We will definitely be going back.

I was here last night for my birthday treat and it was absolutely outstanding. The food was cooked to perfection (the duck with fennel was a revelation), the service was excellent and we had a fantastic night. They lose a star because unfortunately I was a little chilly all evening. It is an old building but apart from 15th-century heating it’s a fabulous venue. I hope I can return soon and I recommend Mortimer’s to anyone who appreciates fine food in a gorgeous setting.

Enjoyed an evening meal at Mortimers. The decor was very cosy. The food was delicious and the service was excellent, the staff were very attentive. It was very quiet with only three tables of two dining, but that may have been down to bad weather. I would definitely make a return visit.

My wife and I ventured here for our wedding anniversary meal.
We often to fine dining experiences / usually Michelin starred.

What a lovely setting in the heart of Ludlow, really love the wood panels and the feel of the dining and reception rooms.

Super attentive and friendly staff who clearly love working there too!

We opted for the main menu rather than the tasting menu… pleased we did the Beef and the Duck were out of this world! And my special no goats cheese board was lovely as well!

We will be back being relatively close by, really surprised they no longer have a star in my opinion!

It didn’t meet expectations. We had the tasting menu, which took almost three hours. There are some great dishes, some ok ones, but also a deceiving one, so it’s an up-and-down menu. Older menu pictures look pretty similar, so you’d expect bullet-proof flavours and execution, but it’s not quite there.
The first two dishes were lovely. The duck had terrific elements like the parfait, but the crispy skin tasted stale fat. The sea trout was perfectly cooked, but the vegetables didn’t integrate. The beef was amazingly tender, and the burnt shallots were a good complement, but the confit onion mash was too thick and not very flavourful. The first dessert was a mystery: a simple and muted vanilla ice cream with blackberries, a pistachio ice cream and a cake that didn’t combine with the other elements. The chocolate and hazelnut dessert returned to a good level, so we had a good taste to end with.
It is a good restaurant, for sure, and the service is fabulous, but we had better food —or at least as good— at other restaurants in Ludlow for less than half the price, so it would not be my first option when coming back to Ludlow.
