I was excited to find a side of the road BBQ joint. Then menu looked promising with decent variety. Thats where the fun stopped. The chopped beef sandwich was extra ordinary (not extraordinary). No discernable seasoning and just enough smoke to be noticeable. The side of corn casserole and banana pudding were on par with the sandwich. If you need an outdoor spot for lunch and are within walking distance, I wouldn’t try to talk you out of it, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

I’ve been all around the nation for BBQ, and my brother and I are ultimate BBQ snobs. This place is INCREDIBLE! The owner has been BBQing since before the land of time! It shows!

I would fly from Denver for this brisket!

Personally, I’m in the food safety business, and I challenge anyone to find an operating room as clean as Jim’s kitchen!

Make the trip!

I finally got to one of the newer bbq joints in the Houston area, @moonlightbarbq. They just opened in July very close to the original location of the Corkscrew trailer. Boy what a treat this place is. They really know what they are doing and why they are doing it. The brisket, jalapeño sausage and spare ribs were all top-notch – moist, flavorful, deep smoke ring. The potato salad was excellent and the Mexican street corn casserole was awesome! While we waited for our food we got to visit with Jim, the owner, for a few minutes since we got there earlier than most and there wasn’t a large crowd yet. He was very friendly and personable, explaining their history (he’s been doing BBQ for a very long time) and their concept, things that are coming to make it even easier to get great bbq, etc. As we were finishing our food, and just because they are amazing people, Jim’s daughter came out and brought us each a piece of pie – today was blueberry banana (holy cow it was amazing!). What a classy thing to do. That is treating customers right.

Moonlight B-B-Q is the real thing. For those who live on the north side of Houston or near The Woodlands, it’s just not that far away. And it’s totally worth going, even from farther away. Go check them out. You won’t be sorry. You should know that during the week they are a lunchtime place – open 10:30am-2:30pm every weekday. Fortunately they just started opening Saturdays as well.

Decided to go here for lunch. The display of the food is perfect. But the Ramsey in me, said the food was not fresh. I really expected better. The cole slaw was horrendous, and tasted fruity. I might give them one more chance. Only time will tell.

Really great BBQ joint! The service was very friendly and gave me an extra rib even though I just ordered 1 to try. They also gave me a free sample of the corn and checked in frequently for refills.

The pork ribs were the highlight for me — completely packed with flavor and texture, especially in the rub/sauce. The jalapeno sausage was also great with a satisfying snap. It was salty and flavorful, and paired well with the BBQ sauce. Next time I’ll probably get both of these for my meal.

Both of my sides (mac & cheese, mexican corn casserole) were very good – much better than the sides you usually get from BBQ places. The macaroni noodles were firm (they hadn’t turned to mush like they sometimes do at other places) and the cheese sauce was creamy but not overpowering. The corn casserole was very unique and filling – the portions are generous!

The brisket was the least impressive thing to me (it was still good) but I blame that on us eating at 2:00pm… brisket is always best before noon. The bark was tasty and it was decently moist, but I’d like to try it again just after they open for the day.

Overall this is an awesome place to get some solid BBQ. Be aware that it’s all exterior (covered) seating, so it gets pretty warm. The bathrooms are much nicer than expected for such a small place. The prices are a little high – which is standard for BBQ – but the portions are very generous and you can eat the 2-meat plate combo for at least 1.5 meals.

Amazing spot for some great BBQ! Owned and operated by a father and son. The owner gave us a tour of the smokehouse and kitchen. Impeccably clean and very nice! Food was amazing. Not only was the sliced brisket perfect, the pork rib we sampled was the best Ive ever tasted, and the sides were just as great as the meat! I also tried the sausage which is one of my favorite BBQ meats and man was it delicious. Two things im picky about; Cole slaw and Mac’n cheese. They nailed them both! I was so impressed. The outdoor seating is very nice and the restrooms are super clean! We will definitely be back on a regular basis.

We’re from Denver, but have eaten fine BBQ from coast to coast during our many adventures. Stopped by here when we stepped off of the plane, I’m not eating anywhere else during our visit. I’m going to have ribs and banana pudding for breakfast tomorrow, lunch will be brisket and mac, followed by turkey breast paired with a nice bourbon-infused peach cobbler for dessert. Jim gave us a tour ( beautiful smoker, beautiful kitchen, SPOTLESS!), as well as insisted that we tried samples of couple different items on the menu to get the full feel.

If I dropped a bite of brisket on the restroom floor, I would surely pick it up, and gladly eat it!

Texas hospitality AT ITS FINEST!
Thank you, to Jim and the fellas for your passion, now we consider you friends.

As a first time Texas visitor- this was easily the best part of my trip! The sliced brisket sandwich with their potato salad was to DIE for, and the owner was super nice. Everyone who worked there was helpful and delightful to interact with. Also, their berry banana pie was so so good

Bought 2 pounds of Sliced Brisket today.
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
Was recommended as a great hidden bbq gem & I can honestly say it truly is!
The brisket was tender, literally falling apart with a nice red ring and a zesty rub to complement the rich, smoky flavor.
And the sauce. Oh My! The sauce is deliciously smoky with a hint of sweetness. Warmed up, room temp or from the fridge, liquid yumminess.
Took the brisket home, added my own dill pickles & fresh sweet onion to a slice of fresh Mrs Bairds bread. Heaven. Asked for jalapenos & received a generous, fresh portion.
While i as waiting, the cashier gave me a sample cup of the Mexican Street Corn Casserole & a small cup to take home. My family loved it!
Will definitely return. Best BBQ I’ve had in a long time. Many wishes for much success.
A great taste & great experience!

This is some of the best BBQ I’ve had in a while. You have to try the Mexican Corn dressing, it is amazing and Banana pudding is great too. They also do a great job catering. They did an amazing job for our company with great boxed lunches. You won’t be sorry if you try them.
