A Rough Start with a Five-Star Finish
The initial impression was a bit flat. Despite there being no line, we waited for five minutes without a greeting. The sushi chef made eye contact but remained expressionless, offering no smile or acknowledgment even when I smiled and waved. It was a bizarre and somewhat irritating start to the afternoon.

However, once we were seated, the experience took a complete 180-degree turn. Our server, JingJing, was a breath of fresh air—personable, professional, and attentive.

The food, however, was the true star. The Thai Chicken Basil was a standout, featuring bold, peppery basil and a fantastic spicy kick. I usually ask to omit mushrooms, but these were so well-prepared I actually enjoyed them. Every vegetable was cooked to a perfect “crisp-tender” consistency.

The ambiance tied everything together. From the curated music to the high-quality branded napkins, it’s clear they care about the “extra mile.” That attention to detail extended to the plating, which elevated the entire meal. To top it off, the value is unbeatable; I’ve paid well over $100 for similar quality elsewhere, but here it was under $80. Bravo!

The orange chicken was delicious! It came as a large portion. I could have shared it with someone. But I’m taking the leftovers home . It’s also served with one scoop of rice.

The ambiance was very relaxing. The background music that was playing was very pleasant. The chairs, comfortable. There’s also a bar and a sushi bar. Restrooms for patrons.

I would come back and eat here again. Thank you for the friendly service!

Blessings!
Enjoy

A modest facade secrets an impressive culinary find in an Oahu North Shore community.

Voted one of the top ten Asian restaurants in Kaneohe by Tripadvisor, Moonga Asian Bistro features an impressive selection of Japanese and Thai specialties.

While the exterior of this local treasure is relatively nondescript, the interior has recently been completely renovated and offers a bright and inviting atmosphere.

The menu is a mix of Japanese favourites and Thai classics. The dishes are generous in portion and tasty. The staff is over-the-top service-oriented and the prices are pleasantly and surprisingly modest.

All in all, Moonga Asian Bistro promises to be a dining delight.

We came to Moonga Asian Bistro for lunch with friends, super hungry — and were pleasantly surprised! The interior is beautiful and very clean. The place was almost empty during lunchtime, which made the experience even more relaxing.

They have a great lunch deal: 3 rolls for $18 — really good value! We ordered 9 different rolls and the Orange Chicken. Everything was fresh, tasty, and nicely presented. The food came out in under 10 minutes, which was amazing.

The prices are very reasonable — it’s rare to find a spot that’s both affordable and high quality.

One small downside: some of the dishes had visible chips, which took away a bit from the otherwise great experience. But overall, we really enjoyed it and will definitely be back!

Ate at this Asian restaurant with family that was visiting from out of town and we were all generally pleased with the results. We came at about 4:45 in the afternoon and there was only one other couple seated. We had 4 entrees and 2 appetizers. We chose this restaurant primarily because it opened at 4:30 and the place we wanted to go to opened at 5 PM but we were all pretty hungry so this place won out.

The food itself was very nice. Their Singapore noodles were exactly what I was expecting or hoped for. The Calamari was fried perfectly if just a touch under seasoned. Orange chicken is what you would expect but not a standout. The portions were all large and had several take aways for leftovers.

Only issue seemed to be service. Although everyone was friendly, it took forever to receive our one soda drink order. It eventually arrived after we asked for it after we received our appetizers and entrees. Another issue was getting a rice order wrong, receiving white rice instead of brown rice. All in all a good experience and will return.

Food was flavorful. So many choices of sushi. You wonder whether the extensive menu corresponds to mediocre offerings from different Asian cuisine. Surprisingly not. Pricey but generous portions. Would definitely return for more culinary experience. Great addition of new restaurants on the Windward side.

I had a great time at this Asian bistro! They have a solid deal — 3 rolls for $18, which is hard to beat. The rolls were fresh and flavorful, and I also really enjoyed the tempura shrimp with veggies and the orange chicken.

Service was a bit mixed. Our main server didn’t seem very engaged, but another staff member really stepped up — bringing out our food and taking extra orders with a great attitude.

Overall, the food was delicious, the prices were reasonable, and we left happy. Definitely worth a visit if you’re craving sushi without breaking the bank.

I’ve ordered from Moonga Asian Bistro three times — and each time, the experience got worse.
• First visit: The food was good, but their card machine was down and they wrote down my credit card information by hand. That felt very unsafe and unprofessional.
• Second visit: My brother-in-law found a rock in his curry. They replaced the dish for free, but that should never happen in the first place.
• Third visit: I found two strands of hair in my curry. I called to request a refund, but they said they could only remake the meal. I explained this was the third issue and we didn’t feel safe eating there anymore.
We went in person to speak with them, and the customer service was awful. We could clearly hear the staff talking about us negatively behind the counter — even though they were the ones who messed up. It took nearly 45 minutes of back-and-forth before they reluctantly issued a refund.
I really wanted to like this place, but between the food safety concerns, unprofessional handling of payments, and disrespectful customer service, I just can’t recommend Moonga Asian Bistro

Nice modern Asian restaurant. Tempura shrimp was good and they removed the tail which was nice. The chicken lo mein and sesame chicken were tasty.

Moonga is a fantastic new addition to Kaneohe’s dining scene! The ambience is sleek, modern, and inviting—everything feels fresh and well-designed. The service was incredibly friendly, and the restaurant was spotless, making for a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

I ordered the honey walnut shrimp based on my neighbor’s recommendation—she’s lived on Oahu for over 30 years and swears it’s the best she’s had in Hawaii. I have to agree—it was absolutely delicious! Perfectly crispy, lightly sweet, and well-balanced.

Their menu offers a great variety, especially when it comes to sushi. I was tempted by their sushi bar and the many creative rolls they offer, so I’ll definitely be back to try more! If you’re in the area and looking for great Asian fusion food with excellent service, Moonga is a must-visit.
