I came for brunch and started with a lavender lemonade mimosa. It was a nice balance so neither the lemonade nor the lavender were overwhelming.
For an appetizer, my party ordered the fried pickles. I liked that they were not greasy. They almost had an air-fry quality to them which made them better.
The beer selection was varied, and they had a great liquor wall. I tried a mead from their draft list and it was refreshing.
The entrees ordered were the Hot Honey Chicken Biscuit Sliders and the Steak and Sunny Hash. Apparently if they have left over prime rib from Saturday, they use it for the Steak and Sunny Hash on Sundays. We got lucky and had the prime rib. It was quite good and we might come back just for it on a Saturday.
The Hot Honey Chicken Biscuit Sliders included a hot honey sauce made in house. I don’t like spicy, but I loved this. It had heat without being overpowering. The biscuits were made perfectly. My only complaint would be the chicken was a little dry, but the sauce fixed that.
We finished with a Toasted Flower, which combined elderflower and Ardbeg 10. It’s inventive and refreshing. I’ll come back and order it again, but be warned it is $18.
All in all, I highly recommend this location for brunch. I look forward to trying it for dinner. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and have Brooke as your server.
Edit: They got rid of their brunch menu, unfortunately.
UPDATE: We returned to Moondog and our waiter, Mike, took care of our trivia team. Had some great dry lemon pepper wings and Wisconsin cheese curds — delish!
The cheese curds were amazing, and I got a ton of steak with my Caesar salad. I would say a little heavy on the dressing, but I will just ask for it on the side next time. It was all very tasty!
Oh, and our waiter, Leo, was awesome.
I meant to stay in, but something howled in the dreary night to take a look at the menu and stop by. It was frightfully delicious!
I began with the Hair of the Moondog, not particularly fond of spicy, but looking forward to a terrific meal, and I wasn’t at all disappointed. Brooke greeted me along with David, the creator of this intense meal we’re about to get into a story about.
There’s a passion in this place that brought me soaking and hungering through the darkness. They call it… The Werewolf. Cajun-seasoned beef, grilled chicken breast, a thick slab of roasted turkey, drizzled in house-made beer cheese and topped with bacon, onion rings, and skinned with brioche bun. I’ve never laid eyes upon a creature so horribly beautiful and decadent. It howled at me in the night — I couldn’t believe how enormous a beast it was — I howled right back, face to face with a match made in heaven. I absolutely wolfed it down.
Patrons gawked and cried as I made love to that monstrously sweet beast, devouring it one half at a time. I’d have shared it, but at the same time it was my first love and I may have forgotten my manners at the table in the moment— I’m sure I growled and might’ve bit them too, had they come any closer.
I’ll have to bring my partner along for this one. The Hair of the Moondog came handy and refreshing for the last half, and I ordered a tap brew of Ghost in the Machine for safe measure. For being a fry lady, I had forgotten they existed. They’d go home with me later. Seasoned fry lovers can request Tahin.
The only detractors I noted are that it was a bit chilly at the bar for an anemic animal such as myself, but I acclimated. Not many humans towards closing, but the ones seated nearby were deep in their own phones; unwilling to have any conversation deeper than surface-level banter, for the bar being a social spot. I could’ve tucked into a corner in the far back, but was just as fine for the rest of the night destroying that werewolf burger in front of gazing onlookers. I flew home comfortably, howling in the night.
I’ll do it again.
