Reviews
It was ok “bar pizza” as it’s known on the south shore, but “its different” [I was told] coming from Lynn. The cheese was good, as the crust was thin and nicely cooked. The pepperoni was meh-OK, but kinda skimpy on the slices of pepperoni. The combo pizza was soooo disappointing, as the mushrooms clearly came from a can; I didn’t bother to evaluate the pepper-onion.
I did like the way their pizza boxes interlocked for stacking.
Small parking lot, but it was nearly empty on the Monday lunchtime visit; 1 or 2 parties were in the restaurant.
The pizza was a straightforward bar pie. Simple, thin, crisp, and honestly just an ordinary slice. Nothing bad, nothing mind blowing, just reliable and familiar. It felt like the kind of spot where the experience probably hits harder if you’re hanging out with friends and settling in for a long night, but for us it was a quick, honest taste test.
Four stars for a classic bar pie that stayed true to what it is, even if it didn’t reach the legendary status we walked in expecting.
The pizza is good, not the best but very good just not a 10/10.. the dough is very thin and cracker like and good flavor.
Atmosphere was quaint and comfortable. Service was great!
They are a ‘Cash only’ establishment but have an ATM by the door, if you need cash.
CASH ONLY. ATM onsite.
If you want to eat like a local, come here for Italian and pizza. Go to Dubes in Salem if you want seafood
If you’re from out of town and you have doubts when you pull up to either place, just trust me.
Based on Dave Portnoy’s reviews this definitely was one we looked forward to
Monte’s is a small unassuming family restaurant in the small suburb of Lynn outside of Boston. On the day we visit our waitress told us the guy making/cooking the pies had been at this place for 50 years.
We ordered two pies: a sausage and a cheese. Dave rated these a 10 which is a definite stretch for me. They absolutely were great pizzas but for me it was a strong 8 maybe 9. The crust was excellent, no flop, crispy, buttery and flavorful. The sauce was delicious and mild.
The prices here are excellent – a small pizza was $10. We ordered two pizzas, buffalo chicken Rangoon’s and a house salad. My only criticism was the salad was trash. All ice burg lettuce – I wouldn’t bother with that again.
The service was great. Value was great. Everything was like $30
Bathroom was clean.
This place is definitely worth a stop but not a 10. Will definitely give 5 star though since I’d like to see it closer to 4.5
