I wasn’t a big fan of this—it didn’t really hit the mark for me. It tries to be Mexican food, but falls short in flavor. The seasoning was bland, and it lacked the bold, vibrant taste you expect from authentic Mexican dishes. Overall, it felt more like a watered-down version—mediocre at best. If you’re looking for real, flavorful Mexican food, this probably isn’t it.

I feel like when advertising as a “Mexican” restaurant should be more authentic food options. Everything is steak and rice, chicken and rice, seafood and rice. Where is the variety? No birria, the seafood is very limited, no TORTAS??? But yall sell hamburgers. What. I know about inflation but 3 tacos for $15? Damn. Don’t get me wrong the food is good I have lived in Altoona 13 years and I feel like the menu can use some changing. Especially for the prices I’m staring at. Not to mention we asked for 3 box’s and our server KEPT bringing us 1 single box and we had to keep asking for more. And when we ordered we asked for 2 fajita bowls and a taco, served proceeded to ring in 1 bowl and 1 taco. Idk I guess maybe misheard? But doesn’t really sound like something 2 people would eat.

This is easily my favorite Mexican restaurant that I have ever eaten at. The California burritos are the best, the service is very fast most days. The staff might not speak great English but they are still professional and friendly. The atmosphere is calm and casual. I really like Monterrey’s!

the food was horrendous, not only was the flavor very bland but the chicken (ordered choripollo) was rubbery and the queso was like water dumped on top of everything. they charged $4 for the horchata made out of a packet. my husband threw up on the way home from eating here, i was left feeling very sick after as well. the service was okay, our server wasn’t very interested in checking into our table even though there was only two other tables. i will say that was the worst $40 i have spent in a LONG time

The food here is very good and at a very good price. I am hispanic and I really enjoy their tejana fajitas and the margaritas are great, especially the top shelf margarita. They have a 48oz option for a margarita, and you can take it to go if you don’t finish it.

We have dined here several times and have always had great food! The last few times though the tables and menus were very very sticky and not very clean. They also try to seat you towards the very back near the restrooms and kitchen areas, even though there is plenty of open seating towards the front. We have asked to be moved several times as the back area is not very clean and is very loud. The only complaint we have with the food, is we have sent the rice and bean plate back to be re-warmed, as they come to the table cold. This has happened a few times. I think they just have the plates already dished up before they actually start making your order. It would be nice for the rice and beans to be served hot along with the entree. The staff have always been very nice and accommodating. The margaritas are also very good.

It looks nice but the meal was messed up, the staff is nice and tried to fix it though. It made my family feel sick too. Non of it taste or looks right, it also smells weird. The place is really hot and not conditioned. There are weird things in my food and hair in my salsa along with it. Also over expensive.

Amazing place to go for a really good Margarita or Michelada. Our waiter (Miguel) he is amazing really good attention, really good customer service, tasty food (be aware they don’t have little portions of food). Definitely coming back!

I’d give it a zero if I could. All 5 of us had something wrong with our order. The service was incredibly slow. Our margaritas were warm somehow. I got a refill and received the wrong drink. 4 out of the 5 of us didn’t finish our food nor did we take it to-go. Spent $103.49 on a family of 5 to leave incredibly disappointed. Will not be back.
