We came here on Valentine’s days, we were greeted warmly and seated quickly. Our waitress, Ira(not sure if that’s how to spell her name), was an absolute dream! She didn’t hover but made sure we had what we needed and never ran out of drink. She was kind and warm and professional. We definitely hope to have her again as we do plan to return in the near future! Experience all around was a 20/10

The chips and salsa were brought shortly after I was seated. The chips were warm, and the salsa was spicy but good. I ordered the shrimp and scallop fajita, which came with rice, guacamole salad, and a choice of tortilla (corn or flour). I had the flour tortillas. I added beans. I was pleasantly surprised when the dish came sizzling but wasn’t burnt at all. It was so good. The rice was one of the best I’ve had. The beans were average. I had to try their fried ice cream. It was very good. I would have like honey drizzle, but the strawberry drizzle was good. I definitely recommend Monterrey.

I’d like to start by saying I have 20 plus years restaurant experience. (Including management) To say I was disappointed in our visit is an understatement. Our server seemed to be the only one serving most of the tables despite the fact that there were several other workers walking around. No refills were given on drinks at any point. The salsa definitely was not worth wasting the chip. The description on the menu item I chose was vague and I didn’t realize it came with onions. It came to the table covered in onions. I sent it back choosing not to order anything else seeing as how the visit was already going pretty poorly. To top it off…my friend found a toothpick INSIDE her chimichanga. I pointed it out to our server who said oh and walked away never to be seen again. I stopped another server asking if he was the manager and he said no what’s the problem. I told him about the toothpick and asked to speak with the manager. The server proceeded to just explain away the toothpick and a manager never came. The server ( not ours by the way) came with the check and both mine and my friends order were taken off…..ok…cool…but still would have liked to speak to a MANAGER. Does this person not care about how this restaurant is operating? Will not be returning.

The food was stale…quesadillas had a burnt oil taste. The salsa was off too. The cheese dip was pretty good and saved my dish. It was a sad experience and I hope the food quality can improve because it is a nice establishment.

I ordered chips and queso yesterday; the queso was extremely thin (it has been the last couple times) which that was fine I can overlook that. What got me was the long black hair in my chips. This has been my favorite Mexican restaurant in Matthews; but after this I won’t be back for a while.

Been here a good handful of times and have tried different plates. The customer service is always great – along with the food (&quick).
I came here tonight by myself and usually when I go out to eat by myself I feel like the service is lacking BUT the service was just as great as if I had a 6 top.
I got the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas and rice. So freaking good and hot! The chips and salsa were good too. I’ve also had the California burrito and the chimichangas and they are equally as delicious.

Really solid food! Fresh chips, flavorful salsa, well seasoned entrees.
Service was quite a bit slower than expected, training a new waitress… no worries. Food served very quickly. Portions were generous. Price was fair.

I’m not sure where all the bad service reviews came from. Our service was great. Food came out very quickly. Tasty salsa and queso. Fried ice cream, too.

Last two times I have gone, there were 2 groups of 3 or less in the restaurant. There were at least 4 people acting as waiter/waitress. Somehow each time, it still took over 10 minutes to get greeted and another 10-15 to get drinks

First visit (09/2025): VERY clean. Food was excellent. Specials are worth having. However, no substitutes. Service was lacking. She never came back to check, no extra napkins, no soda refill or to deliver our bill. We would come back, but not until the ‘sewer’ smell is fixed and gone. It was difficult to eat smelling sewer.
