Food was exquisite. The smoked duck and beef tartar were both delicious. Highly recommended. And the salmon was fantastic. We finished with a selection of cheese and our waiter was very helpful telling us the story for each cheese. Great experience in London if you like to enjoy your food.

Absolutely fantastic! I’d always wanted to visit this cozy French spot in Covent Garden and it truly exceeded my expectations. The slow-cooked beef cheek was one of the best I’ve ever had melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The waiter was so friendly and gave great recommendations for both food and drinks, which made the experience even more special. The decoration made me feel like I was in France, adding to the charm. Such a lovely evening overall, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. Can’t wait to go back!

Although the food was good, we received such a poor welcome and service.. This French restaurant had a fantastic reputation back in the days and we were excited to have a nice quick meal while shopping in the area. Prices are mad…over £100 for 2 (one main course each and a glass of wine!!), service was so poor to a point the manager in charge did not speak to us once…until she took our payment…”have a great day” !! The waitress seemed to be the only one really working that day. The food was good, tasty and well presented…but not exceptional. There were spelling.mistakes in the menu. This was a disappointment….

Fantastic evening and great service from all staff. The food tasted exceptional and definitely worth the visit.
Mussels to share along with a prawn cocktail. The bread and French butter to soak up the sauce. The butter was 10/10! As was all foods.
Atmosphere was lovely, staff were attentive, decoration on point.

Great wine choice.
I was enjoying myself soo much i forgot to take pics of the mains.

I had been here several times in the past and came back after many years and the food was still pretty good. However the portions appeared to have shrunk which was a shame. The beef tartare was good although it was a little too creamy for me. The duck main course was fairly nice and the crème brûlée was your standard crème brûlée. The only real issue was that I couldn’t believe how small my spinach side dish was considering I paid atleast £5 for it. There was probably no more than 3 mouthfuls in the bowl.

Onion soup was the best.
The atmosphere inside was quite nice, too.
We had great time here.

My recent visit to Mon Plaisir was deeply disappointing, particularly given how much better it was on a visit last year.

The fundamental issue is cultural. Mon Plaisir no longer feels grounded in French, or even European, bistro culture. There is no sense of what makes a bistro work: simplicity, confidence, pride in service and an understanding of hospitality. That absence permeates the entire experience and sets the tone before the food even arrives.

That lack of culture is reflected in presentation. Staff appeared poorly presented and under-trained. One was serving in white trainers and looked scruffy, another had a visibly unclean shirt. These details matter in a French bistro. They signal standards, care and professionalism. Here, they suggested a place that no longer understands the identity it claims to represent.

The food followed the same pattern. Two steaks were very poorly cooked. The first arrived burnt and had to be returned, and the replacement still tasted burnt. A pasta dish was overcooked, and the French onion soup was thick and gloopy, lacking balance or depth. For a restaurant built on classic French dishes, this is a serious failure. Simple food only works when it is executed properly.

Service issues compounded the experience. A bottle of water was spilled over me, soaking my jumper and jacket. While an apology was offered, there was no meaningful attempt to put things right and the service charge was still added without discussion. The service throughout lacked rhythm, confidence and any sense of bistro style.

Other details reinforced the sense of decline. The upstairs roof area was dusty, and incredibly there was no proper house wine available, red or white. In a French bistro, that alone is hard to excuse.

Overall, this was a travesty of a bistro experience. Mon Plaisir no longer feels French, simple or delicious. It feels like a restaurant that has lost its culture, its standards and its understanding of what a bistro should be. Sadly, it has gone downhill significantly, and I won’t be returning

While it has been many years since I have had the pleasure of dining at Mon Plaisir I found the quality of French food, the wine selection and service to be just as wonderful as it was long ago.

The attention to detail – with edible flowers on the Salad Nicoise made the meal even more attractive and delicious.

If you are looking for a setting for an intimate dinner for 1, 2 or small party of friends the restaurant appears to be able to accommodate all.

Great cozy little French place. A table nearby made a fuss but felt I had to share our experience was the complete opposite. Lovely kind service, wine topped up throughout. AND THE FOOD incredible subtle french excellence. I’m still thinking about the jus that came with my canard. Honestly, it was Mon Plaisir to have dinner here.

This is an old-school, classic French restaurant: food is rich, creamy and full-on. Fine if you like that kind of traditional French cooking, but there is very little on the menu if you are a) vegetarian b) can’t tolerate rich, sauce-heavy food. The service was desperately slow and the white wine was not sufficiently chilled. I won’t be returning, but if you do want the full, old-fashioned French experience, you might like it. Lovely location.
