Named after a classic Jacques Tati comedy, this intimate restaurant harks back to a bygone era of French cuisine. There is a pleasing level of refinement in the sauces and everything is beautifully presented. An impressive wine list – French of course – accompanies the food. The food was generally less visually “fancy” than the tweezer-style presentations you encounter in many other places (with one beautiful exception among the desserts), but that does not matter at all. On the contrary, it proves that the focus here is 100% on flavor. The flavors are balanced to absolute perfection, and I have never tasted greens such as dill and leek prepared in such a refined way. And for the first time ever, I actually enjoyed the mussel and oyster dishes I was served!
I DID miss something alongside the otherwise perfect duck breast, but the exclusion of other elements was probably intentional—to make us truly understand just how perfect the ingredient and the preparation were on their own.
Chef de Cuisine Dimitri Veith regularly visited the tables, both to serve dishes and to check that everything was to our satisfaction. Our waiter, Chris Midtun, with his warm smile and pleasant manner, made the visit even more enjoyable, while also ensuring that we always had excellent wine in our glasses. The lovely young woman responsible for the water service also did an impeccable job.
Thank you, dear uncle! We are very much looking forward to visit you again!
However, when it comes to the flavours, I felt they didn’t quite live up to the rest of the experience. The dishes were more on the bland side and not particularly memorable in terms of taste. Especially when you compare it to some of the neighbouring restaurants.
Overall, it’s a place that impresses visually, atmospherically, and in terms of service but it falls short on flavour, which is a shame given how exceptional everything else is.
We arrived on time, but the table was not ready, so we were set at the bar with a glass of Champagne on the house. The starters were served at the bar and it was nice spotting how the kitchen worked. The Champagne was a nice surprise, great balance of sweet and sour, very fresh at the same time. Starters were very promising and kicked off the dinner nicely.
Come to the hot dishes, it was seasonal menu so mainly mushrooms and lamb. A bit surprised to see a raw lamb dish, while the texture really worked together with the seasoning. The other main dishes were overall good for a fan of mushrooms or lamb.
Cheese plate and desserts were highlights. It was French cuisine after all, so this part was considerable great.
We notice here had an interesting wine collection. And good service ~
Service was professional and informative. Dining area/interior is beautiful and romantic, definitely sets the vibe. The food presentation was also very nice, but the dishes themselves left us wanting more, flavor wise. Have to say dessert portions are generous and the cheese dessert was definitely a highlight of the evening.
One of my favorite dish was the royale with razor clams, very elegant, and full of flavor. I also loved the strawberry basil dessert, fresh, and a nice ending to the meal without being too much.
Service was attentive, friendly, and never intrusive.
Perfect amount of food, which I feel like is less and less common from many Michelin restaurants.
Another big plus is the acoustics, despite a full dining room, it was easy to have a conversation without screaming.
A memorable evening from start to finish, highly recommend!
The food is where things get serious. French at its core. Confident and clear. But the kitchen plays with fire. Literally. Smoke, grilling, and a touch of char bring warmth and depth to the elegance on the plate.
The mussels are a standout. Delicate, gently smoked, and served in a light broth that lingers just long enough. It’s a dish built on restraint and technique. No frills. Just clarity.
Oysters are pure elegance. They’re actually so good that one might, if not lacking of human qualities, shed a tear, and remember why we search for the best of the best in life.
Then comes the dove. Tender, dark, rich. Glazed in something sticky and slightly sweet. Finished over flame to give it a whisper of smoke. This is the kind of cooking that doesn’t shout. It seduces. You think you understand it, then another layer reveals itself.
The staff are sharp. Quick on their feet. Charming without trying too hard. They know the wine list, know the food, and somehow always seem to know exactly what you need next.
Mon Oncle is a place that understands balance. It marries tradition with quiet daring. Refined technique with just enough edge. It’s a restaurant that leaves you feeling both spoiled and intrigued. And very ready to come back.
