I got the steak frites. The real highlight is the frites. I’m not sure what they do to the fries but they’re probably the best fries I’ve ever had with a steak. And the best part is that they’re celiac-friendly.
For dessert, we finished it off a chocolate mousse. Overall, it made for a magical birthday dinner.
Our server wasn’t also incredibly kind and uplifting.l, making it a great experience.
The only slight drawback was that we experienced 2 tables next to us that had young children and were disruptive, taking away from the dimly lit “french experience.”
Visited on a Friday without a reservation and waited ~45 minutes on a table for 3. You can grab drinks from the bar and enjoy them in the building lobby while you wait.
Loved the spacious patio. Mon Ami Gabi is on a quiet street, making its patio setting unique for Chicagoland restaurants.
Service was exceptional. Some of the best I’ve seen in a while. Tried the baguette, oysters, shrimp cocktail, frisée and lardon salad, and hangar steak. Every dish was a hit, especially the frisée and lardon, such a unique flavor combination.
One of the best I’ve tried in a while, would recommend for plenty of occasions.
For dessert, we were treated to complimentary Profiteroles, Crème Brûlée, and Chocolate Mousse, both to mark our celebration and as a gesture for a service hiccup.
While the service was generally good, our main concern was the long wait- it took over an hour for any food to arrive. It seemed there may have been a mix-up with the order or a delay in the kitchen. Once we brought it to the staff’s attention, they handled it professionally, comped one dish, and offered additional champagne.
We also tried to order delivery from Mon Ami Gabi on another occasion- and I would not recommend doing that. The portions are small and not worth the price.
The standout dish is the Roast Chicken à la Mère. Perfectly crisp, golden skin on the outside with incredibly juicy, tender meat inside-simple, comforting, and executed flawlessly. It’s one of those dishes that reminds you why French classics never go out of style.
Service was excellent throughout the meal: attentive, professional, and genuinely warm without feeling rushed.
