The ceviche was a standout dish: bright, flavorful, and really fresh, with a nice balance of acidity and sweetness. You can tell they care about ingredients and execution.
Service was friendly and efficient, and the vibe at the counter made it fun to watch everything being prepared right in front of us. Overall, a great spot for high‑quality hand rolls and a very solid ceviche. Highly recommend.
We ordered the six-roll package and added the ceviche, some sashimi, and the baked lobster. Every single dish was phenomenal. There honestly wasn’t a weak one in the bunch. The baked lobster and the toro were probably the standouts, but everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared.
The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and it was fun chatting with the chefs as they delivered each roll. That kind of interaction made the whole experience feel even more special.
Just a wonderful night all around. I can’t recommend Momomaru highly enough, we’ll absolutely be back.
Highly recommend the spicy tuna and toro hand rolls, and the shrimp tempura hand roll was excellent with the perfect crunch. High quality food at a very reasonable price. Definitely coming back!
6 Piece Handroll Set Review
I recently visited Momomaru Handroll Bar during their soft opening and ordered the 6 piece handroll set. I have experience with handroll focused restaurants in California, Las Vegas, and Utah (Kazunori, Tekka Bar, Tonkotsu Handroll Bar), so I naturally compared my experience here.
Ambience
The restaurant is warm and inviting, striking a balance between casual and elegant. It works well for both a quick bite or a longer meal.
Service
We arrived around 7 PM and waited about 90 minutes to be seated. The seating process felt disorganized: parties who arrived after us were sometimes seated first. Once I asked for clarification, the staff apologized and quickly accommodated us. They also offered a complimentary ceviche, which was appreciated since it was my birthday.
Ceviche
The ceviche was the highlight of the meal. It included salmon, tuna, and shrimp in a bright soy based vinaigrette with sesame oil and tomato. Without rice, the flavors were clean, balanced, and refreshing.
Handrolls
• Salmon: High quality, but the rice-to-fish ratio was heavy, which masked the salmon.
• Yellowtail: The strongest roll—rich flavor that cut through the rice well.
• Bay Scallop: Mild and forgettable; rice overpowered the flavor.
• Spicy Tuna: Lacked heat; fried garlic dominated the taste.
• Blue Crab: Lightly creamy and sweet, but rice again overwhelmed the fish.
Rice and Nori
The rice was firm and slightly dry, missing the ideal texture to complement the fish. Nori softened quickly due to steam and the distance between the prep station and the table, which affected overall crispness. A layout adjustment could improve this significantly.
Overall Impression
Compared to other handroll focused restaurants, Momomaru did not stand out. I’d give this visit 5.5 out of 10, but there is strong potential. The fish quality is promising, the concept is solid, and once service, rice, and handroll delivery are refined, it could become a much stronger experience. I would consider returning once operations feel more polished.
Orders were straight forward with easy to read menu.
Hand-rolls were top notch, perfect sushi rice with precise temperature control. Highly Recommend Scallops, lobster and Uni special. Salmon and tuna were mashed, not personal preference as it loses some texture.
Our server was obviously lack of training as she claimed our Uni roll was served whereas it wasn’t, I would expect more professionalism with a mandatory service fee.
Be ready to wait a bit. Seating is counter-only right now, and you line up while filling out your order card as you get closer. We waited about 45 minutes, which was exactly what they told us, so that part was totally fair. The counter is small, so I don’t see this being ideal for bigger groups yet, but since it was just two of us, it worked out perfectly. Definitely recommend having something to do on your phone while you wait.
Once you’re seated, it’s absolutely worth it. The space is really cute and clean, and the hand rolls are made one at a time right in front of you. We ordered a 4-roll set and a 5-roll set, plus a few add-ons. You get one roll at a time, eat it, and then they start the next one, so everything is super fresh.
They were out of salmon that night because it didn’t meet their standards, which I honestly appreciated. They let us swap it for anything else, so I went with a lobster roll, which you don’t see very often around here. We also had albacore tuna and yellowtail, and everything tasted great. They do have soy sauce and wasabi available, which I liked since some hand roll spots skip that.
Service was friendly, the timing felt intentional, and once you’re done eating, you head out. They add a 16% gratuity automatically, which made things easy and stress-free.
Overall, it was 100% worth the wait. I really hope they expand the space as they grow because this is a spot I’ll definitely be coming back to.
