Definitely worth coming to this restaurant!
This is possibly the smallest restaurant I’ve eaten at, with 2 chefs in the kitchen, 1 server, and 1 bartender. There are barely 30 seats in the space, and I think it’s impressive they fit even that many. The atmosphere is very cozy, but the seating is definitely tight.
The menu isn’t large, but there are plenty of options and the portions are pretty filling, especially with the type of hearty food they serve. The bread and butter are delicious. As a cabbage enjoyer, the mushroom holubtsi was my favorite small bite dish, but I definitely want to try the trout dip next time I visit. Borscht isn’t my favorite because I don’t usually like beets, but the short rib makes it a very savory dish that I wanted to drink from the bowl. The pork was so tender and fell off the bone easily, becoming a smoky pulled pork dish that I want to eat again. I do wish we had ordered the rabbit over the fish, but the fish was still very tasty.
I hope this place continues to get support through the construction, especially since it took over To the Wind Bistro’s former spot. This place is the perfect date night spot for comfort food or if you just want a quick meal at their cozy bar.
The Black Forest Baba cocktail is giving earthy, savory, elevated V8 cocktail (trust me) weird description, incredible execution.
Food Wise:
– short rib borscht = perfect starter
– ukha fish = NONNEGOTIABLE. One of the best fish dishes i’ve ever had, cooked perfectly.
– roast pork shank was just okay, a little over-salted and super rich, still tasty but not the star
Things to consider; infused vodkas, beautiful cocktails and a wine list from small Bach wineries. We had wine but the cocktails looked delicious.
Make a reservation! They had a full house on a Wednesday.
As a solo-diner, I was already nervous about dining alone, but upon arrival, I was immediately greeted by the staff and welcomed inside. I opted to sit at the bar-top, and from there, was given the ultimate birthday treatment. From horse radish shots (budmo!!), to their delicious seasonal winter cocktails and classic Molotov Cocktail, I was overwhelmed in the best way possible with hospitality and decadent food.
I dined for about two hours and was sad to leave, but was given a warm goodbye from the staff.
To Bo and the staff at Molotov Kitschen + Cocktails, thank you for giving me one of the best dining experiences of my life!! I can’t wait to go back!
The stand-out dish was the dumplings- they were creative and delicious, and I would return just for them. I also loved the nettle borscht.
To my surprise, the meat dishes fell flat. The lamb was chewy, the meatballs were dry, and none of the meat had much flavour other than salt. Maybe my asian taste buds couldn’t appreciate the subtlety.
Service was okay, felt a little forgotten, the servers often disappeared to the bar area.
