My wife absolutely loves this place, and after today, I can see why. We had Eli as our server and bartender, and he was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and just made the whole experience easy and enjoyable.

One thing that really stands out is how allergy-friendly the restaurant is. That level of care makes a big difference and shows they truly pay attention to their guests.

The atmosphere is comfortable, the chef runs great specials, and the portion sizes are generous. Overall, a really solid experience and definitely a place we’ll keep coming back to.

Have visited before for both lunch and dinner and it was great, eager to return but this time nothing was very good at all (besides the sweet potato fingerings). Salads were drenched in dressing which didn’t taste great (way too much lemon?), soup wasn’t good, and my veal sandwich was burnt, the meat tasted terrible and actually made me feel ill the rest of the day. Very disappointing and hope it was a one-off event. Might be a while before I get the courage to try again.

How do I start,
It was the only thing open for the day,
Honestly the waiters go above and beyond explaining the menu, about being fresh and local, which is good. However, when it came to our food, it was undercooked, didn’t have flavor/salt or seasoning,
“Vegan dish” was just a mix of eggplant and sweet potato all mixed with pasta or other vegetables it just didn’t taste right.
Overall, i don’t know if it was our experience, but I just don’t think I’ll be back.

Modesto is hands down one of the best spots for Italian food in downtown Asheville. The ambiance is warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed evening out. I ordered the Cioppino, and it was absolutely incredible—fresh seafood in a rich, flavorful broth that hit every note just right. It was easily one of the best Italian dishes I’ve had in a long time. Paired it with a crisp glass of Pinot Grigio, which complemented the meal perfectly.

The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. You can tell they care about the food and the overall dining experience. The attention to detail, from presentation to flavor, really stood out. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Modesto is a must-visit if you appreciate high-quality Italian cuisine. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Asheville.

We were walking around Asheville late on a Tuesday night after having been to something that made it so we could not get out earlier. The place we were headed to was closed on Tuesdays and so were many other places we walked by. Then we saw lights on the trees, heard music, and found Modesto. As we walked over a man stuck his head out and asked if we wanted to sit inside or out. I chose outside and he told us where we could sit.
When the very nice staff member set up our table, we asked when they closed. She said, we close at 9, but the chef wants to make you food and for you to enjoy it, so do not worry. (It was just after 9.)
We decided to let the chef choose what he wanted to make us as a shared entree, got the freshly made bread, and a drink. We were served Veal Milanesa! It was truly one of the best meals I have had. Everything was perfect.
We asked our waiter if the man who had told us to sit was the chef, and that was confirmed. After dinner, we knocked on the glass door to thank him for his excellent choice, and the chef was thrilled to speak with us. He even told us about his Uncle Modesto. It was a wonderful experience through and through.
Photos just do not do it justice!

Our server Kevin was kind, professional, and fun. Great salmon carpaccio. Bread as soft as a pillow was gifted to our table. Scallops magnifico had a delicious truffle sauce on the pasta and imho the best cook on a scallop I’ve ever had. Other staff was kind and complimentary and helped me have a lovely evening. Thank you!

As a local, I really hate leaving a bad review. But, for the prices this place is charging, they need serious help in the kitchen. My wife ordered one of the chicken specials and it was fatty and honestly didn’t even taste like chicken. One of the others we were with had a stated allergy and we found out later it was the entirely wrong dish (swordfish instead of sea bass). At least the server did the right thing by comp’ing her meal without us asking. The risotto was bad – undercooked and even crunchy. The crab encrusted snapper looked great plated but, sadly, it wasn’t good at all. Food was super salty and the vegetables mushy and gross. Our server was nice and no major complaints with the service. It’s honestly a shame because their menu is really well done and it all sounds amazing. I hope they can get their act together because this place has so much potential.

Met the 2 friendly waiters on my 11.30am stroll around downtown & Arcade when I made a rez for 1pm in the back, the most secluded spot for my lunch w/ 2 close friends.. The place was empty of course so I chatted with both waiters for a bit. Continued my stroll & enjoyed shared appetizers I had eggplant parm tasted Andrew’s meatballs & by recommendation, we 3 split 1 Tiramisu. 5star indeed!
