Model Citizen is one of those vibey spots that feels elevated without being stuffy, and Mondays are my favorite time to go.
They are open Thursday through Monday from 4 pm to 9 pm and closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Happy hour runs daily from 4 to 6 pm and all night on Mondays. And yes, you can order happy hour from anywhere you sit in the restaurant, which immediately earns bonus points.
Mondays have the best energy. It is relaxed but still lively. I am obsessed with their salads, especially the Caesar, heavy on the parm please.
The happy hour menu never misses. Smash burger with fries and garlic aioli is a must. And if you are getting a drink, go for the Negroni. They make a very good one, balanced and done right.
Great food, strong drinks, and a really good vibe. Model Citizen is a go to when you want something fun, elevated, and reliably good.

Food was excellent. Absolutely fantastic – unusual and tasty. If my rating was for food alone, this is definitely a 5/5. Sea Bass, Chicken schnitzel, cucumber salad, roast carrots were great.
Unfortunately there were a few minor issues with service and atmosphere: we had a booking however had to wait quite a while for a table. When we were seated, it took a long time for our waitress to take our order. The wine we ordered was unable to be found – by the time we were informed of that, we were finished with our first starter. By the time our backup wine was brought to the table we were finished with the second starter.
We asked for dessert menus but after receiving them our waitress failed to return for our orders for 20+ minutes. Unfortunately in the meantime the dessert my husband was looking forward to sold out.
The atmosphere was both good and bad. A very large loud group showed up and the whole place is fairly sparse in terms of furnishings so there’s not much to dampen or absorb the sound. Could definitely benefit from some sound minimizing panels.

Fine dining with an accessible vibe at this lusciously modern bistro with bar. Small and large plates with an epic array of decadent appetizers. Fried chips with a novel take on onion dip? Check. Fresh oysters served cold with lemon and sauces? Check. Dill cucumber on a savory bed of whipped feta? Check. Baked squash, tasty halibut, and other hearty servings filled the table. Elegant cocktails and wine list. A very valuable happy hour too. Friendly service and entertaining people-watching. A necessary stop if you’re in Ventura.

Bread with butter and salmon roe- this was very good as well. A great starter and really enjoyed the butter with salmon roe
Fried chicken dinner- this is their special on Sunday’s. Very light and cooked perfectly. Mashed potatoes were filled with flavor without being too buttery. Zucchini salad was a nice surprise. Biscuits and fried chicken and gravy were flavorful without being too heavy
Peaches and cream- this was extremely good. highly recommend
Service- 5 stars

Went here with a group of 4 and just told Kelli to choose our items for us. Every single dish she recommended was excellent. We got the sourdough bread, oysters, roasted squash, grilled broccolini, pasta with fennel sausage, schnitzel, and braised short rib—everything was so good. Drooling just thinking about it!
It felt amazing to show up and have Kelli lead the way. It was the first time for 2 out of 4 of us, so this just felt so comfortable. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the food and cocktails and really made our experience above and beyond!
Such a great experience—highly recommend! The only sad part? I only got a picture of our cocktails because we were so focused on the food and the moment. Just goes to show how great Kelli’s service was and what an excellent experience we had living in the moment!

What a great little find this was. Exquisite food at a reasonable price. Good varied menu with fresh local ingredients. I had the fresh tuna tartare with chips and a gem lettuce, pear, blue cheese and walnut salad. Good portion sizes too. One of the best meals I’ve had in Ventura these last six months.

We just dropped by for some late night cocktails here. I ordered the plum old fashioned and my husband had the bullet train. My drink was delicious but on the sweeter side. I preferred the bullet train since it was on the more savory side. Service was good and the wait staff was friendly. Has a nice laid back atmosphere with some casual music playing.
