Finally had the chance to come check this place out tonight we arrived at about 5:45 PM and we’re seated promptly. The atmosphere was relaxing and and inviting music playing in the background. Everything gave off a welcoming and chill vibe. We started off with a patty and some fritters everything was seasoned with a great balance not too salty not over seasoned not underseasoned. The patties had a great flaky crust the fritters were fried to perfection not oily. We were a party of three for our main entrées. We had the meatballs, jerk, chicken, and oxtails for sides. We had cabbage, mac & cheese, dumplings, rice, and beans, and festival. Again, everything was cooked to perfection. Nothing was undercooked nothing was overcooked. The oxtails were very tender. The jerk chicken was seasoned to perfection and tender and juicy as well. The gravy was so good. I got some on the side to take home definitely 10 out of 10 as far the service we were greeted immediately when we came in we were seated promptly. Everyone there had smiles, pleasant conversation, professional, yet warm, and welcoming demeanor. Overall, a great experience we will be back!

The last Jamaican spot I went to in Milwaukee didn’t have anything I actually wanted… but this place? Oh, they had EVERYTHING. So naturally, I ordered… well, everything. And let me tell you—it was all chef’s kiss.
The owner herself came out to serve us, and she was amazing—super nice, welcoming, and proud of her food (and she should be!). You could taste that love in every bite. The oxtails? Melt-in-your-mouth good. The jerk chicken? Smoked perfection. And the rice & peas? I drowned them in gravy like a true Jamaican uncle would say, “Dat’s how yuh eat it,” and it was absolutely delicious.
Hands down the best Jamaican food in Milwaukee. I’m already planning my return trip in a few days… because once isn’t enough.

Being from the Caribbean, it’s hard to find good island food in my city when dining out. Mobay Cafe provided that experience that I was craving. With the starters, please try the meatballs. They added thyme to them, which took it up a notch. They were moist, flavorful, and oh so scrumptious. For dinner, I had the combo plate of curry chicken and oxtail. I was not disappointed. My only gripe was that I wanted more of the oxtails and the plantains WERE NOT RIPE OR SWEET. We were not happy about that. It seems to be a complaint that many people have about the menu. The plantains need to be more ripe. The lamb chops were also packed with flavor and beautifully plated. Just be careful because it’s a bit spicy due to the fact that it was made with the jerk sauce. The goat and curry shrimp were also a big hit with my party. If you’re looking for good food, Mobay Cafe may be the place for you. But don’t take my word for it. Try it for yourself.

We have been to Jamaica a lot and were missing the Island, so we decided to give Mobay Cafe a try. We are so glad we did!! The rum punch was spot on. The beef patty delicious. The jerk chicken egg rolls, yummy. The main dishes – Jerk Chicken and Oxtail, the Meatball special, both with rice and peas and cabbage. Oh my gosh, we thought we were eating at our friends homes in Discovery Bay and Oracabessa. Food and service was fantastic. We will definitely drive the 45 minutes to come here again.

The plantains weren’t soft and squishy they were kind of dry. Not what I expect from a traditional sweet Plantain. Everything else was phenomenal, especially the oxtail. I will be back, just not for the plantains. Probably the rice and cabbage only.

We had a wonderful family experience at Mobay Cafe last night. We made a reservation and the table was ready for us when we arrived – with flowers on the table. The food was AMAZING, the staff was friendly and the drinks were absolutely delicious. Everything was reasonably priced and we went home with plenty of leftovers. The place had a nice atmosphere and there is even a larger dining table in the back to host a large group. We will definitely be back for more.

Really was excited to have a meal here, it’s been on my list for a long time. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was very friendly. We had drinks within 5 minutes and they have authentic Jamaican ginger beer! Loved that. Apps within 15 minutes. The egg rolls were delicious! Easily our favorite part of the entire meal. The veggie Jamaican patties were also really tasty. Unfortunately we didn’t feel as great about our meals. He ordered the jerk chicken which is labeled “spicy.” The chicken was hit or miss on which pieces were dry and which weren’t, and it was not as spicy as he hoped. My husband said it was a 2, maybe a 3 on the spice scale.
I had the chickpea squash curry. It was hearty and warm but really lacking in flavor. It was labeled “medium spicy” but it was not at all. And I’m sensitive to spice. And I regrettably didn’t really see much squash in the dish. It was like a few sautéed thinly sliced veggies with an entire can of chickpeas and a small bit of sauce.
We also got the stuffed plantains. The texture was great, the flavor was almost non existent.
Overall, the dinner lacked seasoning and depth of flavor. It lacked salt. No salt or pepper even on the table. And was a bit dry. Would benefit so much from condiments and sauce.
We tipped generously, we enjoyed our experience overall. We would like to return and try a few other dishes. We would like to support local businesses! I hope we enjoy the next dishes we try a bit more.

Mobay is very unassuming from the outside. If you’re not looking for it, you wouldn’t know it’s there. Use the street view in maps so you know what the building looks like.
The atmosphere is wonderful. The decor is tropical in a classy style. The music has an island flare (a little too loud, but not deafening). Soft lighting.
Our server Dion was a delightful young man. Friendly, patient, accommodating. There when you needed him, but scarce to let us enjoy our food and conversation.
The food is just delicious. There were four of us and most of their appetizers and some sides come in a quantity of four. We each ordered a different one so we could all try each of them. We ordered the Mobay Meatballs, Shrimp Egg Rolls, Conch Fritters, and Fried Dumplings. Some sweet, some spicy. Overall great combination. Very tasty.
For dinner I ordered the happy hour Jerk Chicken Sliders. Yum. They come with crinkle fries. Two people ordered the Goat and Oxtail Combo dinner because they never had either before. They loved it. One ordered the Brown Stew Chicken which is only available on Wednesdays. She said it was very good. We had NO disappointments.
Overall wonderful experience with a good time being had by all.

I LOVE MOBAY! I have never had an issue on wait time or service. Everyone is very friendly and efficient. I enjoy the 2 meat special w/ curry goat and oxtails and the brown stewed red snapper! I recommend MOBAY above any other place. Wait time is 25 minutes from the time I sat down. I could have ordered ahead but I decided to have a drink at their beautiful bar. I love the staff and appreciate them appreciating me! -Dee

It is quite rare for me to visit a restaurant in Milwaukee and find not only reasonably priced menu options, but also excellent customer service and truly outstanding food that exceeds expectations. The combination of these elements creates a delightful dining experience that leaves a lasting impression. From the warm welcome from the staff to their attentiveness throughout the meal, and the flavors that burst with freshness and creativity, discovering a place that excels in all these areas is a true gem in the Milwaukee area! I recommend everything on the menu. It is so good!
