What a lovely little stop along the way into DT Port Townsend! Parking is right out front, the inside is small and features counter seating and 2 smaller tables for pairs of patrons. Super kind staff. The food is insane! Every bite was delicious, a stick to your ribs kind of food.

Pretty darn good. A little on the spendy side but the BBQ is easily the best in Port Townsend. Had a prime rib plate with a side of Mac n cheese. Service was fast and friendly. There’s not much indoor seating but plenty of space outside to sit and eat. Small gravel parking lots. Definitely on my list to return and try more of the “goods”

Worth the trip to Mo-Chilli BBQ!
If you’re looking for authentic Texas-style barbecue in Port Townsend, look no further than Mo-Chilli BBQ! This small, friendly joint does all its smoking on-site, and the results are truly delicious. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and everything we tried was absolutely tasty.

We had heard they were open limited hours, so we made sure to double-check before heading over. It’s a good thing we did, as we arrived on the last day of their week and the ribs were nearly sold out! The staff were great and were able to hook us up with the very last dinner order, though we had to cut our order from two racks to four ribs. We supplemented our order with pulled pork sandwiches, and we’re so glad we did! The pulled pork was amazing and definitely worth trying.

They have inside and outside seating and offer beer on tap. If you do decide to sit outside, be aware that the yellow jacket bees can be a bit of a nuisance. They have traps everywhere, but they’re still around. It’s a small price to pay for such great food!

While it might be a little pricier than other places in town, it seems on par with other BBQ joints, and the quality is well worth it. A highlight for us was the range of delicious hot sauces available, especially the habanero and Ghost pepper sauces—they were fantastic and added a great kick to our meal!

Exceeded our expectations. Melt in your
mouth brisket and pulled pork. Got it to go and sandwich didn’t get soggy because the bun was the right kind for everything on it, toasted would’ve made it even better. Look forward to trying everything on the menu! Exceptional!

Last year when we drove to Port Townsend we saw this BBQ place on the way into town but decided to eat elsewhere. This time around on our annual PT visit this was our eating destination. I own a smoker and have smoked a lot of brisket, ribs and pulled pork over the years. I like to check on how the pros do it and see how my stuff compares.

Mo-Chilli BBQ is a small store with outdoor picnic table seating in a fenced in area. When you get our of your car the first thing that hits your nose is delightful smoke. In fact, there’s a row of of professional smokers in a covered area adjacent to the store. We placed our order at the counter and our food was served quickly on two separate trays.

I ordered the Brisket Plate (a half pound of sliced brisket–your choice if it’s served on a slice of white bread or not) and chose Ranch-Style Beans as my side dish, It also came with pickle slices, sliced pickled Jalapeños and what tasted like sliced sweet onions. The brisket was very good. I prefer a bit more smoke but the meat was tender, juicy and flavorful. I could see the smoke ring nestled into the meat and bark. For the price of the plate serving it was a bargain. The Ranch-Style Beans were a letdown, a bit spicy but otherwise bland. I was hoping for more of a rich, slow-cooked sauce-based flavor. Still, the brisket was the star of the show, as it should be. The BBQ sauce on the side was a killer, among the best I’ve had. Don’t know if it was storebought or housemade but it didn’t matter, it was that good.

My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich Combo which was , which included the side of her choice (potato chips). A heaping pile of delightful saucy, smoky pulled pork was served on a round bun along with cole slaw and sliced pickles (she declined the pickled Jalapeños). She loved the sandwich and I had to agree based on the first bite she allowed me. Tender, juicy smoky pulled pork that was way up there with the best we had. My only critique was that when I wife allowed me to finish her sandwich, the cole slaw and what I thought was a little too much BBQ sauce had made the bun soggy. I still finished it but my preference was for a sandwich with less sauce. As my wife just told me, “Strangely, there were bits where there wasn’t a lot of sauce. But I still really enjoyed it.”

We both agreed that we’ll eat here again on our next visit. They have ribs and after brisket, I always gotta try the ribs. My wife will almost certainly order the Pulled Pork Sandwich Combo again. Man, I can already smell that smoke…

Update (2025-12-20):
This is our second time and it was as good, if not better than the first time. They were set to be closed for the week of Christmas so we stocked up on brisket, ribs, and sausages, plus sides, for the week. And once they gave us a sample of their special – smoked prime rib – we had to order they too. Everything was amazing, as we’ve come to expect from Mo-Chilli BBQ.

Legit BBQ and excellent service!

My wife and I are certified BBQ judges and in addition to judging BBQ competitions all over the world, always enjoy checking out nice mom and pop places like Mo-Chilli BBQ while we are traveling.

A half dozen or so of us stopped in for a late lunch and although they were out of pulled pork, they had brisket, ribs, and sausage, all of which were great. We also had some sides, with the potato salad being the standout. And the menu is great because you can get sandwiches, plates, and even “bowls” with the various meats and sides. My niece and I went for the 5 meat combo, getting double orders of the brisket and ribs and not only was it delicious and filling, but at less than $30, with sides, it was a total bargain.

Finally, we had a couple of excellent beers from local Port Townsend Brewing, which went very well with the BBQ. We always appreciate when a place highlights other local businesses, like the local brewery, and were also thrilled to see the owner a couple days later walking around downtown Port Townsend because they helped to confirm that these folks are truly local.

And speaking of the owners and staff, they were simply wonderful. We were a large group with a couple of indecisive kids with us so we were not a quick or easy order but the staff was patient, helpful, and welcoming, which definitely elevated the experience a notch or two.

We have driven by the last couple times we’ve been in town and are thrilled that we were finally able to stop in and try Mo-Chilli BBQ for ourselves. We will definitely be back!

Very good brisket and sides (creamed corn was surprisingly good). Dino ribs were good, but on the pricey side. If you want them, call ahead!

The BBQ brisket sandwich was delicious and so were the ribs. It was very busy at a late lunch time but the service is fast. Too rainy to sit outside on their patio so we squeezed in at the counter. My only complaint is the price…out of reach fir most people and we can’t afford the deliciousness very often at $18 for a very small (though filling, with quite rich and tender meat) cheesesteak style sandwich.

The best barbecue I’ve had in the Olympic Peninsula. The brisket was delicious though could’ve been trimmed of fat, the pulled pork was great, but the ribs, oh, the ribs. Really delicious. Our potato salad side had a lot of grated cheese it and I can’t eat cheese, so that was a surprise. The sauce they serve is sweet baby rays, which is a fine commercial bottled barbecue sauce, but I expected a housemaid sauce or several to choose from. Good value for the price and nice service

I lived in Texas for 40 years and learned a thing or two about BBQ. Used to travel the state, Texas Monthly BBQ passport in hand, to sample what the joints had in store. I’m so pleased to discovery Mo-Chilli, because when they say they are Texas Style BBQ, it ain’t no lie. The moist brisket (that’s how you order it, it has the delicious fat cap) was as good as anything in the lone star state. Ribs were excellent and the potato salad great. Friendly service (we were both Texans, after all). Definitely will be back, y’all.
