There really isn’t anything great with this restaurant but Mixteca does have the potential to be. As you enter you’re immediately made aware of this establishment’s confusion. It’s a restaurant named Mixteca that plays “country” music loudly overhead. The interior lacked Latino vibes you’d expect from a restaurant named Mixteca but it appeared to be clean and well maintained. There’s no table service here nor any menus to sit and view which would have been a huge plus for this place. Instead you feel rushed to order at a counter like you’re at McD’s while mazing through bars like cattle to order from a vast menu overhead. There is a self serving salsa and chip bar (which is a nice touch) that’s stocked and maintained well. I’m happy to report the bathroom was clean and well maintained as well. When your order is ready they actually call out a number that is printed on your receipt, clearly impersonal as if customers are just a number. The meals are placed on a tray like in an elementary school cafeteria and the plates are the offensive foam (such a waste). The sides are served separately in small foam cups and the utensils are flimsy plastic. The Mexican inspired meals are “white-washed” (doesn’t taste authentic) but still decent. There isn’t much inspiration to the flavoring here but better than taco bell for sure. This restaurant also has a small bar that opens up to the inside as well as an outer lounge-like area. The bar serves beer and mixed cocktails. We were surprised there was a DJ playing good music near the bar but it was difficult to hear within the restaurant because of the annoying loud country music playing overhead. There’s also an outdoor patio but you couldn’t hear any music out there but it’s layout seemed nice. Mixteca has a LOT of potential and could be a Hotspot with its location if only they’d invest more energy and effort in the quality of the food, service and the all the easily improvable small details. There’s nothing negative to say about the employees, just wish they wouldn’t sweep the floors near tables customers are eating at which is unsanitary. Seriously who likes dust/debri flying about when you’re food is exposed? Definitely not me.

Food here is amazing! The beef in the taco salad had a smokey flavor to it that just put it over the top for me! My husband’s street tacos had amazing flavor as well. The beans and rice was so good I had to make an order to go for me! We drive over 20 min to come here! My ONLY thing I would ask is if they had some sort of queso. If they had queso this joint would be a million star review!

I’ve been a customer since back in the day when they used to be at 43rd. Ave and McDowell, later at 43rd Ave and Olive and until now. Their food has gone downhill ever since they added the bar and outdoor area. I understand the owners wanting to bank revenue on happy hours, etc., However it is evident the quality of food has taken the backseat. Food is very bland, eggs were cold/clammy and barely edible. Not good.

Always a good experience here. Food is a little pricey but it’s well worth it in my opinion . Never a long wait to receive it and it’s always nice and hot. They have a chip and salsa bar to accommodate you while you wait as well.

Pubic Hair in food… followed up with dental floss in food. See pics. I stopped in and ordered a beef taco and child size bean and cheese burrito $11.32. Got home nephew eating the burrito and yells, uncle Paul there is stuff in this burrito. Opened the crusty burrito and on the edge was the blue string, followed by the pubic hairs – 1000% disgusting – I called up immediately and they said “Oh we are sorry, but we cant give a refund over the phone, and no managers are here (5pm dinner rush and NO Manager), but if you come up we can refund or give that money back to you. OK, well lets go up, walked to the cash register – lady already had my ticket sitting there and she said – OK all we can do is refund the burrito. Told her take a hike, horrible service, your getting a 1 star review and she and the guy with her could of cared less.. Well.. back at ya.

Mediocre, fast casual Mexican food. You order at a counter and find your own seat. Service was fine. Food was also fine, nothing remarkable and was also lukewarm. We tried the Mexican pizza and pollo asado burrito enchilada style. They did have a nice patio set up with fire tables, but also a live DJ on Friday night at 7pm with two rough looking older individuals dancing on the “dance floor.”

I’ve been going to this place since the early 2000s. It’s has always been one of my favorite places. Today I had to change my review from a 5 unfortunately. Today I went in to get a burrito around 11:25 ordered and noticed they put onions on it and I’m allergic. I asked and informed them there shouldn’t be onions because of my allergy and the cashier checked on it and forgot to hit the button. The Lady on the line got upset and started throwing her arms up and was visually upset… then when she finally got back to remaking my burrito she didn’t put the extra meat I paid for and then went and put so much sour cream on that I can not eat it.. It’s leaking out everywhere. Every single bite is mostly sour cream. I’ve never had such a bad experience at this place.
