Since I like to think optimistically….”this is probably a good thing, because It will motivate me to revisit them to get a true sample of what they offer.”
I was able to get a plate with ribs, chopped brisket with Mexican street Corn and Pinto Beans.
I thought the ribs were a little tough, but the Chopped Brisket was very flavorful, tender and smoked very nicely. The Mexican corn was good and I thought the Pinto beans were pretty good also. I did not care much for the BBQ sauce that was include, I had a very spicy seasoning inside that just did not set right with me.
Overall, it’s not Texas BBQ, but pretty darn close to be in Omaha. LOL – I will definitely be back soon and I will have to make sure that its not close to closing time.
The lady mentioned that they smoke everything daily, so that explains why they were pretty low on items an hour away from closing. She suggested calling my order early to be sure to get the items you want.
I’m pretty sure the FEW negative reviewers must’ve been having a bad day because I have nothing bad to say about Mission Ave BBQ on a Tuesday at 5p. They only had 2 ribs left, which I was able to get. However, I took it as that means they were just that good… and I was right!
Yes, the parking lot is small, as well as the inside… but this is a Cafe style location. You’ll have that. There are other places to park and walk up. I truly suggest you do if you don’t want to/can’t park in their lot… it’s worth it.
We got a platter.
Everything on it was good. The only thing that rated a 3 would be the Mac and cheese for me as it was bland for my tastes.
I’d recommend the beans (4 star) or the vinegary cucumber salad (my 5 star).
My friends favorite was the ribs, but there weren’t mine. They were fine but just not my preference. I’d give it a 4.
The brisket would be the 5 star item. I’m not a huge fan of it normally but this was tender and juicy.
Everything else would be 4.25-4.5 ish.
Free Parking is available in a small private lot to the left when facing the building. There is also street parking that is free as well on the side streets.
I didn’t pay for the meal so I’m uncertain of the prices but I will say the cheesecake gets a 5 star because of it’s price (that I saw separately on the menu for pricing). It’s a good piece for a good price and feels like a pay cut if you walk out without one.
I enjoyed the bread pudding too but I felt like the cheesecake was definitely worth it. My friend preferred the bread pudding.
Kudos to the Chef and Denise (for your hospitality and your chicken salad recipe was chef’s kiss as well). So glad y’all chose Old Towne Bellevue as your home.
Parking next to this joint, but if full, there’s plenty of street parking.
Charming little restaurant with cool music memorabilia adorning the walls.
The brisket was the star of the meal – succulent and delicious.
I choose the tomato-cucumber salad and elote for my sides, both were flavorful and prepared with care from scratch.
The sauce has a nice bite, and is correctly served on the side. I tasted it, but the brisket stands on its own better without sauce, in my view.
One tip – the parking lot is tight, so back your vehicle in to make leaving easier.
Had a great time meeting Scott, who owns the place and is the pittmaster. He’s from Texas and knows brisket. All the employees were very friendly and helpful.
Can’t wait to return and try new sides the next time – but I’ll be enjoying brisket every time I go!
Take a trip to Old Towne Bellevue and savor the myriad flavors; you’ll be glad you did.
