The young lady who answered the phone described root beer floats, bread pudding, banana pudding, cheesecake, and beignet, etc…as well as all the topping options. (WE WERE SO EXCITED!) I told her we were only 3 minutes away and asked if there was available seating and she confirmed there was plenty of open tables.
We arrived and I was impressed with the amount of parking and cleanliness of the lot.
We were greeted by another very polite young lady who seated us on the bar side of the dining area. Decor is mixture of southern elegance mixed with hunting (mounted ducks, etc). There were serval flat screens playing sports games.
Here was where the disappointment began… Our waitress informed me that they don’t offer dessert until after dinner menu at 5 p.m. (it’s roughly 4:40 at the time we’re discussing) but that she would ask the kitchen.
She returned and said the only options were root beer floats or banana pudding until 5 p.m. (literally only 20 minutes away and there was only a handful of folks seated at the bar and one couple seated just beside us.)
Given how cold the weather is I was looking forward to an order of beignets and coffee and my boys were hoping for bread pudding…. but I wasn’t going to leave without doing something nice for my boys. So I ordered a coffee and 2 root beer floats, 2 banana pudding, and water for us to have in between trying each thing. (See pictures)
Coffee was burnt tasting and I was not brought any cream or sugar to start. When I asked for some she asked if I’d like Carmel or Vanilla creamer to which I replied I would like Carmel and some sugar. Never got any sugar and was given only 2 of the tiny creamer cups. I am an avid coffee lover and I did not finish this coffee. Not worth $2 a cup
The root beer floats were very tasty but for $9 each they only held enough to fill maybe a 12-16oz cup as they were mostly ice cream.
The banana pudding was not what I expected from a place in the south with Cajun roots. The vanilla wafers were still crunchy..however, the pudding seemed to be a mixture of organic and instant mix and some of the banana was still firm. It was topped with spray can cool whip and crushed wafers. None of us cared much for it and took the remainder home to be polite. The price of $10 each is laughable for what it was and how tiny.
The bathrooms are NOT marked at all and we had quite a time finding them. The girl we asked described it as looking like a closet door for all of them… she wasn’t kidding as the bar side bathroom was right in front of us and we only realized it when another guest entered/exited leaving the door ajar. (See picture)
We might return another time to see what the other food served after 5 p.m. is like…still haven’t decided yet and we prefer to support local which is why I still tipped %15 on the $45 check.
Some of our favorites –
Crab cakes -best we’ve had anywhere!
Cajun mushrooms- seasoned crispy and enough for the whole table.
Fish and chips – the fish is so fresh with the perfect light and crispy batter with the best house made tatar sauce.
The Steaks- Juicy, flavorful and cooked to perfection! I’ve had every cut available, all top quality steaks!
Fried shrimp and chicken nuggets also top contenders.
Sunday brunch – don’t miss out on the Fried Chicken !
Desserts – Banana. Pudding , and bread pudding are my favorites.
From people that just enjoy great food and getting our money worth.
If you’re in Florence or Muscle Shoals AL, lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Pulaski, Tennessee, or you’re driving on highway 43 between Lawrenceburg and Florence Alabama, this place is excellent.
I cannot recommend this place higher than five stars, but I would.
Have always been seated within 5 minutes of entering and have sat in both the bar area and regular area (prefer the bar area).
Wait staff has always been polite, happy and efficient. Able to “deviate” from menu without problems and they are always helpful.
Wait times for drinks, appetizers and meal have always been within normal wait times, even when busy.
Food has always been exceptional; cooked well, seasoned well and presented hot and good looking.
During every visit Executive Chef Smiley makes it a point to come around and check on all the people and has the greatest personality in “joint”; but Monica gave him a run for his money this Sunday.
Since they are always improving on food, many more visits are in our future.
