Mimi Garden – A Dumpling Dream in Rancho Santa Margarita
My wife and I recently visited Mimi Garden Dumplings & Bao, and from the moment we stepped through the doors, we knew we were in for something special.
✨ Atmosphere
The space is elegant yet comfortable—modern décor, calm lighting, and a touch of upscale warmth. It feels like the kind of place where you can enjoy a relaxed date night or impress out-of-town guests. The restaurant was spotless, and the presentation of the menus and table settings set a refined tone right away.
Service
The staff was incredibly professional, attentive, and welcoming. Everyone—from the host to the servers—carried a genuine smile and seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even asked. Our tea was always full, dishes arrived promptly, and each item was explained clearly when served. It’s rare to find service that feels both polished and personal, but Mimi Garden delivered exactly that.
Food
Now, the real star of the night—the food. Every bite was perfection.
Kurobuta Pork Soup Xiao Long Bao (8 pcs) – These soup dumplings were phenomenal. The delicate wrappers were thin but strong enough to hold the rich, flavorful broth inside. Each bite was a burst of savory, umami goodness. Easily some of the best XLB we’ve had in Orange County.
Beef Rolls – Crispy, flaky exterior with tender sliced beef, cucumber, and cilantro inside. The layers of texture and freshness made this one of our surprise favorites. The accompanying black-sesame sauce added an earthy depth that tied everything together beautifully.
Pan-Fried Bao (Sheng Jian Bao) – Perfectly golden bottoms, pillowy tops, and a juicy pork filling. The contrast between the crisp and soft textures was just right.
Sesame Balls – A simple but delightful finish—crispy outside, chewy and slightly nutty within.
Each dish was beautifully presented and arrived piping hot, showing real attention to timing and detail in the kitchen.
Overall Impression
Mimi Garden is a gem. It captures the essence of fine dumpling craftsmanship—authentic, flavorful, and made with pride. The blend of exceptional service, high-quality ingredients, and elegant atmosphere makes this restaurant a must-visit in Rancho Santa Margarita.
Whether you’re a long-time dumpling lover or just starting to explore the world of bao and xiao long bao, Mimi Garden will leave you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished your meal

Am surprised there’s good dumplings in RSM. Portion was on the smaller size but food was flavorful without over seasoning. We ordered 10 dishes and finished everything. A good find in the area. Nice ambiance, clean and spacious place.

Came here from a reccomendation from a work buddy. I was not disappointed, I think this might be the best asian food in south oc. The juicy pork dumplings xlb were just as good if not better than din tai fung. The sweet and sour pork was delicious. A huge shout out to the wasabi shrimp which was very similar to honey walnut shrimp but had a small wasabi flavor. The black pepper noodles were gone within seconds. Also those pan fried pork bao was out of control super crunchy and and filled with broth. Nothing was bad. The service was great. I’ll be back 100% with friends and family sp I can try more.

We’ve lived in Rancho Santa Margarita for quite a while, and we love trying new restaurants—though honestly, we’ve had our share of disappointments. But last night was a game-changer. We decided to try Mimi’s Garden, and from the moment we walked in and saw the menu pictures, we were curious if the food would live up to them. And let me tell you—it did!

Everything we ordered was bursting with flavor, and we tried three different dishes that all turned out fantastic. The service was equally great—the waitstaff were super friendly and welcoming, and the whole experience was just smooth and enjoyable.

In short, we can’t wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu. It’s a perfect spot for a quick, light, and tasty dinner in a clean, inviting setting. Highly recommended!

The food is good, with vegetarian options available. The servers are attentive and trying to give the best experience. I took one star off service as the order was wrong for a couple of our items, but they did make the dishes again. Nice setting and if you get there earlier in the evening there is no wait.

What a fantastic find. We decided to try Mimi Garden in RSM and it was fantastic. The restaurant is clean with a positive and peaceful ambiance. We had multiple servers with Leo, Geoff and Anna who were kind, professional and knowledgeable. The menu is quite detailed and has accurate photos of each dish. We started with the sweet and sour soup which was hot and tasty. Then we ordered our entrees with the vegetable fried rice, beef and broccoli, orange chicken and bok choy with shitake mushrooms. The food and service is stellar. Definently a great find for quality Asian cuisine.

Such amazing dumplings! They are every bit as good as Din Tai Fung and in a much more laid back atmosphere. This place is a hidden gem. Our kids are xiao long bao snobs having eaten them in Taipei, Shanghai, San Francisco, and New York. Dumpling for dumpling, Mimi Garden holds up with the best. The staff was also diligent, welcoming, and attentive. We enjoyed every bit of the meal. The green beans with garlic were also a flavorful surprise. I’d say all the vegetable dishes surpassed the big name chain quality and flavors.

A hidden gem in this small town. I enjoyed their Xiao Long Bao (soupy dumplings) because it was flavorful and thin wrapped skin like Din Tai Fung. The beef wrap is flaky, crispy and tasteful. The spicy shrimp wontons are decent but could use more flavor and spice. I would come back to try other dishes if I am in the area again.
