I stop here often. It is a treat to even browse here. You can grab a snack and a coffee, relax at a table and enjoy the morning traffic or just grab some cookies and pastries to take home. The staff is friendly and helpful. The goodies are fairly priced and well worth the trip across town to grab a treat. Grumpy approved. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dubuque is so lucky to have such a lovely bakery! The food is outstanding!! We stayed at a house close during a snow storm and we ended going to Millwork for breakfast and lunch. Sooooo good! We will be back!

I stopped in for a few loaves of sourdough bread and it did not disappoint! Parking was tricky. I went out on a Sunday and parked across the street at the optical place. The sandwiches looked great and there were 5-6 tables and booths. Looked like they also had coffee, hot cocoa, soup and a large assortment of baked goods. We served the Rosemary olive sourdough with creamy chicken soup. I will be back for more. I took one star from the atmosphere because of the limited parking.

I had such an amazing first experience at Millwork Bakery. Immediately greeted by friendly workers and just their brewed coffee and blueberry cream cheese pastry hit the spot. Their shop is great space, good seating and the perfect location for the working Dubuquer. A must-stop!

Delighted that my favorite bakery has a storefront again! Best croissants and baked goods. I don’t have to wait until Saturday Farmers Market to get my baked goods anymore

I wanted to love this place on the first visit. The people were great, genuinely friendly, and the vibe is solid. That said, it became clear pretty fast that Millwork’s heart belongs to coffee, not baked goods.

Round one: cookies that could double as paperweights and pastries that were cold and tough to chew. Not terrible, but not exactly begging for a repeat visit.

Still, I believe in second chances. So I came back. Grabbed a bear claw for myself and a cinnamon roll for the kids. Pro tip, these pastries shine after a little home intervention. Oven on warm for about 20 minutes, and suddenly we’re in business. Warmed up, they were enjoyable, and the kids were happy. That counts for a lot.

Now let’s talk bear claw math. The pastry itself is toasted nicely and has good flavor. The filling, though, is playing hide and seek. The ratio feels like 20 parts pastry to 1 part filling. Think flavored water levels of commitment. You know the flavor is there, you just have to concentrate.

Bottom line, great staff, strong coffee game, and pastries that improve a lot with heat and realistic expectations. If you’re coming for coffee and a light bakery snack, you’ll be fine. If you’re chasing gooey, filling-packed pastries, you may want to manage those dreams a bit. Although the danishes looked like a solid option. I try those next time.

I’ll be back, but mainly for the coffee and the people.

The quiche Lorraine is one of the best quiche ive ever had. From the crust to the eggs it is very light and fluffy. Alot of flavor as well. Have also tried the sourdough and raspberry oat bar. Excellent all around.
