We are a local family-run business specializing in tacos, quesadilla, tortas, and burritos. Mijo’s started as a mobile operation attending multiple seasonal markets, festivals, and catering events. Our menu is focused on a handful of Mexican staples; we subscribe to the belief that quality is more important than quantity. Our most popular offering are the barbacoa tacos! Mijo’s also offers a variety of craft cocktails and local craft beer.

Phenomenal, that’s the word.
From start to finish, the experience was top-tier. The customer service alone sets them apart from most restaurants. Our waitress nancy was such a joy and informative. You can tell they genuinely care — not just about getting you in and out, but about the entire experience. The food quality matches that same energy. Everything was packed with flavor, the portions were generous, and nothing felt rushed or half done.
Mijos Mexican Authentic Restaurant nails the Mexican ranch style atmosphere too it feels warm, welcoming, and authentic.
If you’re anywhere near Fox Lake, Illinois, do yourself a favor and try this place. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit.

My first time at the Mijos restaurant but I’ve had food from their food truck before. They brought the noise! Freshly made guac, was creamy and fresh and delicious. The chips were piping hot, right out of the fryer.
My wife ordered 3 tacos planning to bring one home. Nope they were all gone, she said they were so good.
My barbacoa bowl was excellent as was the shrimp taco. Their cocktails were delicious and very cleverly crafted. Some excellent local craft beers on draft too!
I wish I lived closer to Mijos. We would become frequent diners here.
Staff was friendly, fast and welcoming. Everyone was smiling. Keep up the great work!

Amazing Authentic mexican experience with thoughtful owner. We met for a business lunch. We had delicious chips and homemade quac. They had a really neat sauce blend served with the guac for house made spicy sauce or mild sauce. They had a carrot entre as well. Service was quick and friendly and you can tell They really care. Definitely worth the drive. They also have a cool sitting lounge with some casino slots in the next room. Decor was reminiscing of eating in Mexico.

First time here and WOW! This place is in my top 3 Mexican restaurant I’ve ever had, for sure. Homemade tortilla chips, fresh, made to order. And the salsa that comes with, they should bottle and sell it, it’s so good. My husband and I tried the fajitas, we got an order of chicken and an order of steak. Both were delicious, but steak was both of our choice for the best protein. Rice and beans were flavorful. The staff was friendly. It was a little before dinner rush and it was nice and quiet. We will definitely be back.

Friendly staff but food was just okay. I had the Barbacco tacos while they had good flavor it was cold and dried out. Probably because they packed it to go instead of dine in. I had to pay extra for broth which is usually included, to be fair it was more like large bowl of soup sans noodles and vegetables. The servers were very responsive and I will try again. They serve pickled carrots which are good, didn’t miss the free chips and salsa most restaurants serve.

Went there for my two friend’s 22nd birthdays. Food was excellent. Food came out in a timely manner. The meal was affordable. They do have a fun way of singing happy birthday including sombreros, and someone playing a melodica. Their sauces for your tacos and burritos were very good. It was a little cold where we sat but we were closer to the entrance doors.

My misadventures in car hunting brought me to this amazing place. The drinks are strong, the chips are crispy, the service is great. Our server, Leo, was wonderful. Thank you for the kind hospitality and delicious food. The barbacoa tacos and cocoflan was soooo good. I’ll be back – 10 out of 10, I highly recommend….

Everything is top tier, can’t go wrong.
How have I not rated this already! Mijo’s immediately made our top 5 pick off all places. Love their custom cocktails, simple menu, amazing staff. This place transforms at Day of the Dead and even brews their own beer at Harbor! Love catching their food trucks in the wild during festival seasons. Super appreciate when they make too many tamales and have a few left over on Tuesdays or whenever we roll in. I still want to try breakfast but I’m not good at mornings. Ask for some carrots!

A really cute place with a welcoming atmosphere. We were seated quickly and got our drinks right away. I ordered Huevos Rancheros and my husband ordered the Mijo’s Scramble. There are American options too. Both meals were served quickly and piping hot. The portions are generous and we were given two salsa options. The food was delicious! The service was great too.
