San Diego arguably boasts the most authentic Mexican flavors north of the border. This love of traditional regional cooking inspired the Morton family to open the first Miguel’s Cocina in 1982. Beginning with a few classic recipes gathered from our chef’s family and friends, our menu captures the true spirit of Mexico with a unique San Diego twist. Our authentic style drew a loyal following of those in search of Sonoran grilled swordfish tacos, sizzling sirloin fajitas, and spicy rich chicken mole. Over four decades and six locations, our signature friendly service and festive decor have made Miguel’s a San Diego tradition for locals and visitors alike.
Bustling outpost of a small chain serving margaritas & California-inspired Mexican eats.

Our initial visit to Miguel’s Cocina was met with a warm reception, characterized by friendly smiles and excellent service from the very beginning. This high standard of service was consistently maintained throughout our evening, largely thanks to our server, Fatima, who was truly exceptional. She was remarkably prompt in refilling our drinks and chips, often anticipating our needs before we even had to request anything. The food itself was delightful and presented at an ideal temperature. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

This was a very nice experience. I sat at the bar around 430pm and Alex was the one to greet me and set me up with a margarita and dinner. Everything was delicious and the restaurant and restrooms were very clean and well decorated. I enjoyed this experience and the quick and efficient service. Thank you I’ll be back!

Great spot for happy hour! They have excellent drink and food specials, plus the complimentary chips come with both fresh salsa and queso. The bartenders were all very friendly and provided great service.

We had a big birthday party with 16 people, the food and the service was EXCELLENT!! Our server Ashley was the BEST!!!!! My friends were kind a demanding but she took such good care of all those annoying young ones, they were keep asking for more drinks and more salsa, more cheese , more chips ……. Ashley was on top of it, no one waited for a minute, she was like an energizer bunny , running bk and fort , wow very impressed wt her.

Delicious food. Flavors and menu is unique but also familiar enough if I feel like the classics. I’ve been here maybe 6 times the past year. Excellent everytime. Consistent. Chefs/cooks did a wonderful job. Thank you Layla for Excellent service. Give her a raise.

You get smaller portions for the price you pay, in other places you pay a few bucks less and get a bigger portion. Alcohol is expensive as well. Our fajitas had more onions and other veggies than chicken, steak and shrimp. Don’t get me wrong, the food was pretty good, but for price, this will be a little too much to pay for good ‘ol Mexican food.

I’ve been to Miguel’s Cocina numerous times for business meetings and family events, and each time I’ve had a wonderful experience!
The food is GREAT, and there portions are generous. You won’t leave hungry — and potentially leftovers to eat tomorrow! And if you’re in the mood for dessert, the fried ice cream is such a fun treat!
If you’re looking to avoid crowds, lunchtime is definitely the way to go, as it’s far less crowded then.
Overall, this place is a staple, and if you haven’t been there already, definitely give it a try. You won’t be disappointed!

We went to Miguel’s to eat octopus tacos. The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was fast, and we enjoyed the octopus tacos on purple tortillas.

We arrived around 4:45pm on a Friday and were seated in the bar area for Happy Hour quickly. Chips and salsa were delivered shortly after that. The house margarita was delicious and way stronger than I expected for a Happy Hour drink. My husbands carnitas tacos were huge and my taquitos were tasty. We were checked on numerous times and enjoyed ourselves. We plan on coming back.

I’ve been to Miguel’s in Coronado a number of times but this was my first time visiting a different location. Their food is always so consistently delicious and the service is great here too! Love the queso and chips to start and none of the entrees I’ve ever had have disappointed me. Highly recommend!
