Pls note: our server was fantastic and kind.

Management was NOT. Not only were they scarce but lazy and unprofessional. They don’t know what they are doing and need POS training to provide the correct order buttons for their servers.

My wife wanted to surprise me and take me to a hometown spot she frequented with her family as a teenager. Didn’t know it was under new management but I can tell you- this is called midway Duck inn but the management is below MID-way. Went from a delish meal with a few hiccups that we at first overlooked, only to be disappointed and charged for sides that came with our meal bc they didn’t update their pos system and sent their lovely server to apologize on their behalf but continue to charge us. My wife ordered a meal that comes with a side salad and side. She asked for an additional side of asparagus which had an up charge which was perfectly acceptable. However, we got charged extra for one of the sides that came with the meal. We asked to speak with management after pointing out the mistake and both managers refused to fix the issue and then refused to visit our table. They requested my wife to go to speak with her at the bar bc she was too busy serving an empty bar and a chef who was busy sending out withered salad to tables to speak with my wife. On that note: my wife replied with , no the manager can come speak to us just like any normal manager should. We sat waiting for at least 25 minutes to get through a three minute common sense solution. Instead of this one time $100 customer experience that will be their only customer experience. Lost out of potential business over a $5 side.

I don’t recommend going to this place unless you want ok food and a side of P.O.S service. I feel bad for serves who work under this management. To treat customers like this made it out to be what was a simple correction to an uncomfortable one.

Unfortunately this is just my review. Back to the manager situation, I’ve never been to a restaurant that left their server hanging without any clue on how to fix the solution as if the server apologizing so many times but not comping a side that was obviously over charged. A customer shouldn’t have to pay for the managements mistakes period.

This place won’t be open long with management like this. Good luck.

This place is awesome it changes its menu every day. The atmosphere looks cool but can be kind of loud when it’s full of people. However, the food is excellent and you can get duck there and some other choices of the hunting nature. I must place to see and eat.

Stopped by for lunch with my wife today(Sunday). Let me start off by saying the atmosphere is fantastic! Our waitress Randie, was spot on and knew the menu like the back of her hand, very impressive. We both ordered sweet tea and it was garnished with a lemon slice and pineapple slice, absolutely perfect! Now let’s move on to the food. I ordered the duck tenders and my wife orded the meatloaf. The duck tenders were perfectly fried with an AMAZING dipping sauce. The meatloaf came with 4 sides . It was the most flavorful meatloaf we both have ever tasted. Cream corn, salad(which was perfect), mashed potatoes and a corn fritter was all delicious. Our bill was VERY reasonable, around $50 which was worth every cent. We will DEFINITELY be back and I highly recommend this hidden gem eatery as it’s now on my top 3 restaurants to visit and eat. I heard the catfish is amazing, so I’ll be back to try that next time, very soon!!

Burgers: 9/10
Cod horseshoe: 8/10
Corn fritters: 10/10
Overall: highly recommended!

While out for a drive we stopped in for lunch because we’d heard good things. We were not disappointed. This is a great local dive and diner. Unlike many diners, this was very clean and not musty smelling. The atmosphere was vintage yet authentic. We asked for recommendations and the very helpful server mentioned the burger and cod horseshoe were excellent. They were. We also ordered corn fritters and were they a treat! I would definitely recommend this for lunch and I’m sure dinner would be even better!

If you are drawn to rustic hole-in-the-wall places, you’ll feel right at home. The food is quite good. The drive from Peoria is lovely this time of year. Best chicken in the area. My Pescatarian friends ordered the blue gill, said it was a real treat. Make sure you take some fritters home, if they last that long.

Very good food, generous portions. Pork tenderloin and fresh cut fries were excellent. Cozy, lodge vibes inside. It’s a small place and fills up fast on the weekend, reservations recommended. I can’t wait until my next visit.

First time dining here tonight. The food was great and service was wonderful. I had the crispy chicken sandwich with nashville hot added to it. My husband had the philly cheese steak sandwich. Then my kids had the mini corn dog kids meal and mac-n-cheese kids meal… they both cleared their plates and said they’d want to come back again (we don’t always get that answer from them – so it’s worth noting). Very large portions, additional sides, and complimentary rolls to start. We didn’t have reservations for a Saturday night. It was good we showed up before 6 because it really started filling up.

Wish this place had good food, tried it a few times, very nice bartenders, but food is not good. Had the Thursday special, country fried special, had beef. Came with salad, had the apple garlic vinaigrette, could not taste apple or garlic, the beef had no flavor, gravy on top had no flavor, mashed potatoes although real, were watered down with no taste gravy, corn with cream cheese, canned corn, dollop cream Cheese, microwave and viola cream cheese corn, green beans with bacon…now let’s talk fritters, ordered twice to go, corn, and both times middles were raw, this time, the outside crunchies, and half inside still raw….don’t think we can come back unless food changes…AGAIN service good, food is a NO

What we thought would turn out to be a solid experience, turned south so quickly and here’s why.

Kids meal, chix tenders with fries & corn fritter.
Main meal comes with choice of 1 salad or soup & a side.
2 Catfish pieces meal, Caesar salad, mashed Potatoes/gravy. Additional side Asparagus.
Fried Chicken w/ HS salad & side of mashed potatoes/gravy.
My Cesar salad came as a house salad (topping of red onion, tomatoes, croutons, carrots, yellow & orange sweet bell pepper diced) w/ dos. While mixing, under the top bedding of lettuce was spoiled/wilted; enough to fill a chaffer dish. When I got a replacement, it was then romaine salad, croutons & parmesan chz, ori. what was to be expected- a true Caesar salad. As dinner arrived, everything looked great & our server asked if anything was missing. My side of mashed potatoes had yet to arrive but soon it came. After having the salad issue, I wanted to avoid further complaints… but man I found a long hair embedded in one of my catfish, my husband watched as I pulled it out. In hindsight, I should have alerted the server. It was just going south, & we honestly didn’t want this to go that direction. Our server had been extremely caring, checking on us throughout. We proceeded & I just removed that outer layer of breading before eating. My husband’s chicken was as expected. We were curious about the Bomb Sauces- but found to be normal average sweet baby rays.

As soon as the bill came, found my catfish meal was getting charged for not only the asparagus, but my mashed potatoes. As noted above, the meals come w/ a sd salad or soup one & side. I let the server know there was an error. Regardless of how a server puts the order into the system, I ordered a sd that came with the meal & then added the asparagus in addition to. She returned stating she was told by mgmt to tell us, due to the way they have to input the order into the system- it was just how it was. Apparently- the asparagus could only be ordered as an upcharge with the meal as the sd because it wasn’t an option as a side order. This meant, my free choice of a sd gets bypassed, and it was unavoidable.

Whether it was meant or not, the mistake turned into an error that should have been corrected by mgmt willingly. If you don’t believe the customers statement- you have cameras and can go back to hear me order the potatoes first & then add the additional sd of asparagus. But why would you right? That would be too much work!

We asked to speak with mgmt since she had not offered any other resolution. She returned embarrassed & flustered, saying I was free to approach mgmt at the bar & that they would not be coming out as they do not like to. It is unprofessional to tell me I must get out of my seat to look for mgmt. She said the other manager was the chef but he doesn’t like to come out either. At this point, over a $5 side, I refused to pay until it was resolved. I explained yet again to the server that it isn’t right to charge customers just because they don’t want to input the proper prompts/buttons for ordering no matter how little the cost. Their menu clearly stated the sides that came with & that’s exactly how I ordered it. The server disappeared for another 5 + minutes & they finally returned having comped the side.

We were so understanding after all those mistakes. I offered a chance to communicate & they refused. I suggest proper management training and POS training. Most of importantly… DON’T MAKE YOUR SERVERS LIE! We asked for your names, & you gave Megan & Tom. But clearly- your business states owners Susan & Todd. How on earth did you think it would make sense to lie? Our community deserves honesty. Your server has a bright future; she did a wonderful job but is undervalued or respected. In order to be successful & sustainable in a service led industry- you must have honor & not fear mistakes but embrace them with willingness to change bc that’s the only way to build something that will last. Why should anyone return to support an establishment who doesn’t care about those who support them?
God Bless!
