I ordered the Caliente Burger, and the burger was delicious! I wasn’t sure if one patty was enough meat, so I added an extra patty. The burger came out and was incredibly juicy, stacked high, and smothered in melted pepper jack cheese. There was some heat to the burger, but it wasn’t as spicy as I would have liked it to be. The burger was cooked to perfection as ordered!
The service was friendly, attentive, and that made the whole dining experience easy and enjoyable. When I say great service, the staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have what you need during your visit! The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and had nice, relaxed vibes, which made it a great place to sit and actually enjoy the meal.
If you like a flavorful burger with some heat and solid quality all around, this one’s a must. I will definitely coming back to try more when I am back in the area.

The service here is very friendly and about making a great experience for the customer. Whether a regular, or a new visitor they treat you like family. The food is excellent, in that home made vs. mass produced style and kind of feel, and great tasting. I always come back here when in the area or family is visiting me here in town. Never a disappoinent to dine here.

The food was great! My husband and I shared the slap up burger with grilled onions and zucchini sticks. It was more than enough food for the both of us! The root-beer float was great and they even topped it off before I left. They use Barqs Rootbeer here! The service was amazing, they made me feel like family! I definitely recommend this place!

Usually I’m not one of those people who say “if I could give this place 10 stars – I would” but this place deserves 11! The friendliest, kindest, most amazing staff ever! What a great diner experience! I went there twice during my stay in San Diego and second time was right before airport! I stoped by with a suitcase before heading to the airport for my flight because I couldn’t leave San Diego without another bite from this great place! I got a veggie burger with mushrooms and onions rings! One of the best burgers I had and the best onion rings for sure! 11/10 would recommend! Popular place with locals too! Around 25$ for burger with added mushrooms, drink and onion rings! Not bad at all for their amazing service!

This was my family first visit and it was great! Their menu was just enough with plenty of options for everyone! The portions were great, food cooked to perfection, and the customer service was excellent! The restaurant started getting full a little after we got there and the line grew out the door! Great place to visit we will be back!

Great, classic food spot! Some of these diners have a huge menu where they end up doing everything mediocre. The Malt Shop had the classic hits and knew EXACTLY how to make it.
Make sure to try their sweet potato fries, and their home made ranch is amazing!
We will definitely be back when we go to visit Sea World in a few months.

I’ve tried MANY burger joints throughout the greater san diego area and all I can say about this place is OMFG!
The burgers (Slap Up Burger & True Bleu Burger), were made with fresh made patties and just as soft, juicy and flavorful as Hodads!
First impressions of the outside of this place were “ehh”, then you walk inside and you are greeted with some of THE BEST customer service I’ve ever recieved! You will not be disappointed with this place
Is give it more stars but you are only allowed 5… EAT HERE!

This place not only has unbelievable burgers that truly taste homemade but the customer service is top tier. The owner (I believe) Jeff is always there and incredibly friendly and personable and you can tell he puts his heart and soul into this place. This place is a must for an all around good experience.

Oh gosh they put the Corvette Diner to shame. Such an amazing chocolate malt, and the fresh french fries are excellent (with their homemade sauces or dipped in something cold). Quick and super friendly bilingual staff. Busy but not a long wait.
