Had a great visit to the Midland Tavern for dinner recently. It’s in a nice building which is spacious and conveniently located across the road from Midland Gate shops.

It was pretty quiet when we went in and after ordering a few cold beers we decided to have the chicken tikka kebabs for a starter while we decided on mains.

The kebabs were nice and full of flavour, we then ordered a scotch fillet with mash & veg and a beetroot salad for mains.

Both mains were really good and big, generous portions. The steak in particular had a beautiful char flavour to it and was cooked exactly to how we asked for it.

All in all an enjoyable visit, my marks for the atmosphere were only that because of how quiet it was, no fault of the tavern itself.

Absolutely loved it here. The food was delicious, the beer was cold, and the staff made us feel right at home. Best pub grub I’ve had in a while. If you’re looking for a great local with no fuss and great quality, this is the place. 5/5!

Decided to surprise my partner for a lovely dinner for our 2 year Valentine’s Day celebration together, the bar staff they were great loved their job and made delicious drinks! The food on the other hand was a bit of a let down, we arrived at 7pm and ordered probably about 7:10pm then waited and waited but no food still yet to come out, we sat waiting and people who arrived after us and ordered after us got their food within a reasonable time. Finally by 8/8:15pm we finally got our food, the lamb Rogan Josh, the ocean plate, entire of garlic pawn skewers and naan bread. Rogan Josh was decent but the ocean plate not so much was burnt not just a little bit burnt the whole thing was burnt or tasted burnt. Went to ask for a refund they were kind enough to give a $30 voucher for next time. The only really nice part was the waffle for dessert.

My partner ordered a $43 scotch fillet to be cooked rare and it came out medium. Made a complaint and the staff were adamant it was cooked rare. The steak looks like it was cooked for too long or precooked. After years of being Principle patrons, we will definitely not be coming back. Big waste of money!

Mellissa and Mandy behind the bar were sensational. Sat at the bar. Loads of banter. Great pub atmosphere, not enough pubs allow sitting at the bar, these legends even allowed us to eat our lunch at the bar. Food was insanely good. Fresh as seafood and the chicken skewers were so good. All washed down with $8 pints of Carlton Draught. Perfect and highly recommend

4 of us went for dinner here last Friday night and were absolutely blown away at the hospitality, quality and taste of food. The owner came out several different times to check everything was up to standard and even had a good chat with us. We ordered almost every appetiser and 2 porterhouse steaks for mains and could not fault anything, the bruschetta and sizzling garlic prawns smashed it right out the park! Will definitely be back!

What a great gem right in the central main shopping district of Midland. Under new ownership and they have it nailed. Same great atmosphere as we remembered from the Principal and it with a fantastic new menu. Perfect chips crunchy outside soft fluffy middle. I had the pork belly tender juicy and delicious sticky sauce. Others had fish and chips, I tried the fish. Batter thin and crispy with moist perfectly cooked fish. If you are worried about the dreaded dry chicken parmy worry no more. It was bang on. Could not fault anything on the table. We had my mum with us and asked for a quiet table near the toilet. She is in a wheelchair and we had a quiet spot just adjacent to the hall for the disabled toilet. The table was the perfect height for her chair and disabled parking right out the front. The toilet facilities had full swing around for the chair. Abled or a person with disabilities if you are looking for a place to eat this is a must try. We will all be going back. Thank you to the excellent and caring staff who took their time ensuring the food was prepared how we love it and for their attention to detail.

Having previously enjoyed dining at The Principal, we were keen to try the newly rebranded Midland Tavern. Regrettably, the experience was disappointing.

We ordered six meals in total. The children’s pasta was advertised as being served with a Napolitana sauce; however, the flavour was quite unpleasant and notably spicy. When this was raised with staff, we were advised that there was no spice in the dish, which felt dismissive of our concerns. One child was unable to eat the meal, while the other managed only half. The children’s burger was also substandard, with the patty being very dry and hard.

A large portion of the menu appears to feature spicy items. Both the steak sandwich and chicken burger were heavily covered in chipotle sauce, which overwhelmed the dishes and made them unenjoyable.

Additionally, the venue was very warm, with no air-conditioning operating at the time of our visit. Table service is no longer offered, and staff assistance was limited.

Overall, the experience did not represent value for money, and we would not recommend dining here.

Restaurants around the area, your on notice. The entree menu awesome, my wife and I had pork belly bites- crispy where it needs to be , soft with just the right amount fat to meat ratio.
Chilli garlic prawns- just wow, chilli to give a little bite with enough garlic to back up the flavour.
Wife had scotch fillet-medium rare with sliced carrots and a mash potato.
I had porterhouse well done, garlic prawns on top with chips and side salad.
Both were melt in your mouth , with a good back up from the mash and the salad was well presented and flavoured.
