The bartender was fantastic and made my favorite drink perfectly, absolutely delicious! My husband ordered a cup of coffee, which he really enjoyed as well.
For food, I ordered the hash browns and the classic breakfast sandwich, and my husband went with the big pancakes. Everything was incredible. The hash browns were next level, especially paired with that flavorful dill sauce. And those pancakes? Chef’s kiss! Fluffy, delicious, and unforgettable.
Overall, it was a great experience, and whenever I’m visiting Philly again, I will definitely be back!
This was my first time at Middle Child Clubhouse, and I had an absolute ball. I did stand in line for about 40 minutes due to how popular the place is, but it was definitely worth the wait. I came completely by myself on Saturday morning and felt welcomed from the start.
Nick was so kind to everyone outside checking in on guests and greeting us with menus. Once inside, I had the pleasure of sitting at the bar with Miss V (I’m forgetting her first name but she had red hair), and she was an absolute joy. She asked if it was my first time, and when I said yes, she made the experience even better.
I ordered the pancakes the Middle Child way and the duck fat Cubano both were perfect. I also love a good strawberry matcha, and this one was made perfectly.
From a chef’s point of view, I really appreciated the open kitchen. Watching everyone work together so cleanly and efficiently while getting food out in a timely manner was a pleasure.
I’d rate my first-time experience a 10/10 (or 5/5). As a chef who’s worked in the hospitality industry, this is officially one of my new favorite spots.

I ordered the classic breakfast sandwich and added bacon and avocado. The egg was the star—so fluffy and pillowy, it practically melted in my mouth. The bacon was crispy, the avocado was fresh, and the whole thing was just perfect. Definitely worth the hype.
But the pancake stole the show. When it came out, I was genuinely surprised to see a huge butter smiley face sitting on top of it. Such a simple, fun touch that made me laugh. And that crust? Incredible. Crispy on the outside, soft inside, and just tasted amazing.
Casual spot, good music, great food. Can’t wait to go back.
Food was seriously good and really lived up to the hype. I’ll be back and bring family and friends to try.
One element that surprised me was the lack of service. This wouldn’t have bothered me but when you pay it auto suggests 20% tip… The line is out the door which lasted around 30 minutes, you order as soon as you get in then try and find a clean table. You have to grab your own cutlery and water. Staff are also very slow to clean empty plates. Again I wouldn’t have minded all that if I knew that before leaving a sizeable tip.
From the moment I stepped up, I was greeted by the most awesome, warm, and welcoming guy named Nick. Truly top-tier customer service. He greeted me like he greeted everyone else — with genuine energy and kindness — and I felt so special and felt seen. The man is just awesome and clearly knows what he’s doing. That kind of hospitality makes a huge difference.
The line moved quickly, which I appreciated. The woman at the register with curly blonde hair seemed a little cold, but hey — it was busy, so I get it.
Now let’s talk about the food. We split the Pancake and a blueberry turkey sandwich… TO. DIE. FOR. Every bite was incredible. All around, such a great experience. I already want to go back and try more from the menu. If you’re debating it — go. Totally worth it.
My wife, the true hero of this story, chose Middle Child Clubhouse for our anniversary dinner, and the atmosphere alone—warm, lively, and perfectly designed—made me realize she deserves a medal.
The Service: Carl is a Legend
Our night was absolutely stolen by Carl. He wasn’t just a waiter; he was practically a culinary psychic whose recommendations were so accurate, I’m pretty sure he read my mind. He ensured our special night was “a night to remember,” which is probably code for “a night where they keep bringing you excellent drinks.” The entire staff moved like a perfectly well-oiled machine, clearing plates before we even realized they were empty and bringing refills without being asked. Seriously, shout out to the whole crew, including the cooks—we love that they share the tips equally. That’s a concept we can definitely toast to.
Speaking of toasts… Because it was our anniversary, they hit us with a complimentary congratulatory drink (bubbly, we think!), and then just when we thought the night was over, they gifted us a complimentary after-meal drink with dessert. They basically didn’t want us to leave, and honestly, we didn’t want to either.
The drink selection was killer: I started with the sour and citrusy Patchwork (because I’m complicated), and she went for the elegant Easy Martini. We finished by sharing the phenomenal Clarified Spicy Punch.
The Damage (to our belts)
We started strong. The Latke with trout roe was a savory explosion that set a high bar, and the Oysters disappeared so fast we immediately regretted not ordering a second round. Our only minor note was on the Grilled Maitake with Crispy Egg—it was delicious, but it was flirting with being too salty. We needed an extra sip of that Spicy Punch just to balance the salinity.
For mains, the Mushroom Scarpinocc and the Averna Glazed Ribs were perfectly delicious and comforting.
Then came the climax: the 7 Layer Chocolate Cake. My wife, the resident sugar expert, was in heaven. I, the bitter, savory antagonist, was ready to tap out, but the glorious sprinkle of sea salt on top performed a miracle. It was the perfect counterpoint that made the dessert palatable for the non-sweet inclined, allowing me to eat a respectable amount without questioning my life choices.
We couldn’t finish it all, so the staff boxed up the leftovers nicely, which is a testament to the generous portions.
Final Verdict
Middle Child Clubhouse nailed the food, the service, and the celebration. This place is now firmly on our list, and we’re looking forward to bringing our parents here soon. Go for the food, stay for Carl. Highly recommended!
Food was awesome just like the service. Ingredients were fresh and felt like everything was made from scratch and with care! I will definitely be coming back!
