First of all, thank you Kaylee for excellent service!

I was so torn beginning this review. First of all, we walked in not knowing what to expect. The interior remake is spectacular. MC have truly made it their own. It’s modern and well-lit (those driftwood chandeliers!) The walls are hung with large TV’s showing various sporting events. The one holdover would seem to be the speaker system, which refreshingly enough plays a mix of modern Mexican music — not Mariachi music.

We were served the standard chips and salsa. The salsa was cilantro heavy, but we really liked it. I’m one of those unfortunate people for whom cilantro tastes like soap. Either someone is a wizard in the kitchen, or they possibly used epazote? In any case, I’m a fan!

I’ll be dancing mostly through extraordinary high points, and a few trivial low points. The thing is, the high points were so high that the low points are only mentioned as minor points of improvement. I couldn’t bring myself to deduct a star for less than fresh free tortilla chips or the standard bland pink rice.

My husband ordered the steak fajitas. I ordered what I thought would be a plain old cheesy molcajete.

Our meals were quickly delivered to our table, sizzling happily of course. My husband’s fajitas were delicious. They were mildly seasoned, with a huge serving of tender steak. He really enjoyed them, and we brought some home.

Now, the molcajete. I have eaten at good tápas restaurants. The molcajete mixture was buried under what amounted to three plates of tápas, all stunning and wonderful. Between the skewer of perfect juicy bacon-wrapped large shrimp, the half ear of street corn, the fried cheese, and the fresh poblano, both as a garnish and for added heat, we could have had delicious appetizers for two.

My husband noted the flour tortillas were fresh, by the way. He was raised in south Texas. He knows his tortillas.

When I finally got to the molcajete mixture, it was was juicy and full of cheese. It was loaded with meat, and very savory. It could have served two normal people.

Now, who reviews the side plates? I will here. Wow. I told you about the boring rice (Folks, just add a bit of olive oil, a squirt of lime juice, and a bit of chopped cilantro right before serving. Pink rice must be abolished!)

A lime wedge provided perfect tartness for the street corn and the small fresh greens. One more wedge would have been nice for the shrimp and the molcajete mixture. Minor!

So. Boring old refried beans. Nope. These were freshly made and creamy. They actually had flavor. I could have eaten a plate of these.

I understand there were some starting hiccups. It happens. That’s why we waited. This restaurant is a really nice. It is waiting for large parties of people. It’s great for an intimate date night, dressed up people, dressed down people, and families. If the kitchen isn’t catering yet, they should be.

Mi Cerrito is a wonderful addition to Bucyrus, and it’s worth a road trip if you want different flavors than standard Mexican restaurant fare. I am looking forward to trying their carnitas, and their dishes made with black garlic intrigue me. We’re going back soon!

Didn’t bring all parts of my meal as I was eating the male waiter took my plate with my utensils so I couldn’t finish my meal. Felt rushed not like the other locations. Definitely bad experience for first time in either I’ll order and pickup or I’ll go to the other locations. Paid 142 for lunch and even told the girl all she was worried about was my payment bugged me three times so I walked up there myself and paid and told her and she didn’t care. She never tried to make it right. Bad customer rapport and the workers were all on their phones and then just come grab stuff off your table. Definitely won’t be referring anyone to them I’ll jsut share my honest experience.

The absolute best salsa! Waitress was super friendly and attentive, and they did an amazing job with the interior design—love the driftwood lighting and accents. So nice, especially for a small town.

Nothing wrong with the food, service, or location, just not that great of a value compared to Pepe’s across town, once again the food is fine, portions are just skimpy compared to it’s competitor.
