Ate here in December. Had stayed at Hotel Encanto but never tried their in house restaurant. It’s just lovely. Shannon was our server. She knew that menu completely; she could tell us every little detail. My husband had the branzino. He did not want it blackened and Shannon made sure it wasn’t. The risotto was the perfect texture. The chicken was tender and moist. It was an excellent meal in a beautiful room. I’m sorry this review is so late. Mezcla was a wonderful experience.

This place is one of the best in New Mexico. Executive Chef Aaron Spring is a food magician! Fine dining in a casual beautiful atmosphere. Everything is amazing from appetizers, main dishes to desserts and drinks! All around great experience every time I go!!! Hats off to this place!!!

Bartender wouldn’t break a $20. She said “the accountant is out of town.”

This insult to my intelligence occurred about an hour before closing, 2nd January.

This was honestly one of the best dinners out we’ve had a long time. And we eat out multiple times a week! From the moment we walked into the cozy and moody themed restaurant, we were constantly surprised. Greeted warmly by Jaime and taken to our table decorated with flowers, we were then walked through the menu and we were excited about the food options.

The food!
From our amuse Bouche of a warmed scallop with pea purée and iberico ham, to our fresh Mezcla salad, thIs place was hit after hit! The entree though took it to another level. The chicken and mushroom risotto came out in a piping hot dish than just melted in your mouth. That risotto is CRAVEABLY good. And the beef tenderloin served with a unique potato croquette and asparagus wrapped with that same iberico ham, was absolutely delightful. Memorable in every way!

This place is a gem. Don’t believe the reviews on Google Maps. They are of a restaurant that was here BEFORE Mezcla. Give them a try and you will not be disappointed.

After reading the reviews we were not sure we wanted to eat at Mezcla but are certainly glad we did. I am writing this because I hate that such a wonderful place has been given such poor reviews. The food was delicious. We started with frozen margaritas which were well made and not overly strong. We had the Queso Fundido which was just the right amount of spicy and the cheese was not overly thick. Our entrees were the chipotle espresso filet and the blue cheese pesto linguine with chicken. The steak was perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth tender. The potato was crunchy and delicious. The pasta was tasty as well. The strawberry rhubarb cake was a dense cake with chunks of rhubarb which was fine but not something I would order again but my spouse enjoyed it. Our waitress, Desiree, was personable but very professional. We really appreciated her. The timing of the food was perfect. There was enough time between courses to enjoy them and converse. We spend 11/2 hours over dinner which is as it should be. Fine dining should not feel like fast food. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was lovely. The restaurant and hotel are very charming. It is decorated so you feel like you are in a nice restaurant in Mexico City. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, this is the place to go. Some folks were dressed up and some in shorts. so do you. But give this place a try.

We visited for my birthday this week (July 2025). There is a new chef and the food was cooked perfectly. Some of the dishes on the menu have been tweaked/improved and everything was delicious including some really good cocktails.

It is a fine dining restaurant of a quality you don’t typically find in our little city.

The temperature was pleasant also.

Original review from 2024: The food has the potential to be excellent, but many dishes we have ordered arrive at the table with the meat or fish raw and have to be sent back for more cooking.

The ingredients seem to be high quality, the chef just needs to take his/her time and get it right.

The servers are mostly well trained and professional.

The atmosphere could be nice, but typically it is too cold to enjoy a meal; it is like being seated in a walk in fridge.

We stopped in for dinner after seeing a show at NMSU. We were skeptical due to the mixed reviews. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Our server, Desiree, went above and beyond to provide the best service. We felt so comfortable we ended up sitting and chatting long after we finished our meals. Our meals were prepared quickly and exactly to our specifications. Everything was very flavorful. We will definitely return!

We stayed in the main hotel- Hotel Encantos de las Cruces and on our first night we decided to eat in at the restaurant downstairs and I ordered stone grits and prawns in tomato sauce… needless to say the food is absolute !! The home beer was ok and the Manager was nice enough take the food off my receipt even offered if I wanted to get something else from the menu, but I was already turned off and recommended for them to take that item off the menu as it was horrible!

Wife and I had a great time but that’s how we are everywhere. Awesome setting but DJ kinda sucked, kept losing dancers when he played a certain genre, know your audience. The bar is really lacking staff and experience, spent 20 minutes mid bar before I had my order taken and it was very weak, unacceptable.

Disappointing food. The Risotto was pasty, the chicken along with it was overcooked and very tough. Also a salad with Burrata had absolutely no flavor and the sea bass was good, the leeks were tough on the outside and should have been trimmed better as well as less of the white sauce so that the food itself could be tasted. The food has potential, it’s just no there as good as it could and should be. The blue couch seating sinks down so low it is both painful and uncomfortable. We won’t go back for dinner, maybe just the bar.
