Looking for a place to eat and didn’t want the normal and found this place on maps…gotta say im happy i did. I’ve been enjoying these mex style restaurants lately that do their own thing with success so when I found this place did their own style I was happy. Really enjoyed their food and the bartender Brian provided great service. I highly recommend stopping in…BTW the mole is tasty.

I recently tried the Pork Carnitas at El Sarape restaurant, and it was absolutely delicious! The flavors were bold, savory, and perfectly seasoned. The portion was generous, and every bite was tender and flavorful. Friendly service and a warm atmosphere made the experience even better. Highly recommend!

We have been going to El Sarape on Martin way for 30+ years… It is nice to see the updates, and the atmosphere is amazing. the Cadillac margarita is not as good as it use to be, a little sweeter, but the presentation was awesome, but flavor not as good as the original ElSarape. Food was good not disappointing, but not the same as previously. Salsa not as hot, chips didn’t get refilled, and there was a sure charge of $3.00 just for the heck of it. not sure why it was added. We ordered the 3 amigos, and the cheese was a chunk that didn’t melt, no mushrooms anymore and the beef was very chewy. kind of a bummer, but still enjoyable.
for 2 people, 2 entrees, and 1 drink it was $112.00. I guess it has been a log time since we went out for food. a little bit of a shock for the cost, but the people were very nice and it was enjoyable. just not something we could do more than a couple times a year with the cost. I miss Rose and the other servers from the past, but I wish the best for this restaurant in the future.

I’m shocked. Hate to appear like I’m over exaggerating here, but was recently visiting family in my hometown.

A friend invited me out for dinner, I shared I’d like a good steak and he said we needed to go to the old El Sarape.

I said, bro, I said STEAK… as in Rib Eye (last time I visited family I went to 1889 for the first time end of 2024).

My buddy said the family who owned El Sarape was remodeling and rebranding. And that they even got a new chef.

Needless to say, we met up there. The outside doesn’t look like it’s changed since the last time I was there in 2002 or 2003. BUT holy smokes, when the get the outside to match the inside, this place will be THE SPOT!!

No joke. I am SHOCKED at how GREAT EVERYTHING WAS! No joke. I couldn’t help but to take a few pictures.

So here’s the Bottom Line:
(1) Food was GREAT! I had a WAY BETTER steak at Mextiza than when I went to 1889.
(2) Drinks were on point!
(3) The dining area was incredibly nice.
(4) The bar was very stylish and COMFORTABLE (they had the big game on a couple of flat screens).
(5) The prices were unreasonably reasonable! I would have paid 25% more, no kidding.
(6) The people were all super hospitable and had attention to detail.

Now, you might wonder why I’m sharing all of this. Ultimately it’s because I’m genuinely surprised. Best kept secret in my hometown of Oly! Second, I own and run a bunch of small businesses and when I get to see or experience a GREAT experience, especially of a small, family run business I have to share.

I hope you enjoy Mextiza as much as we did. When I’m back, I’ll be leaving kids with grandparents and taking my bride on a date here.

I’ve come here multiple times now, and each time their food is delicious and staff are great. Plus its atmosphere is beautiful, clean, and unique. I’d choose this place over most restaurants I go to in Olympia and even though it’s a bit of a further drive for me, it’s worth it every time. I recommend their horchata, carne asada, elotes “street corn”, and chicken Alfredo. Which is everything I’ve tried so far. Can’t wait to try more of their menu. 10/10 place.

I would’ve included a picture of the food but it was so good, we finished out plates before getting pictures. We had the Expresso Burrito, chilaquiles, and chimichanga and all 3 plates were amazing. The portions were definitely worth the price. Also, I’m pretty picky with my chile rojo and theirs was on point! Very delicioso and of course the restraunt itself was beautiful.

We love the new renovations and updated menu. We loved it before- it was a very reasonable priced place beforehand to grab drinks and food for our family. We went tonight and the prices have gone up a little but I also felt like the quality of food was worth it and it was delicious. My husband said the Diablo pollo tacos were the best tacos he’s ever had. We’ll be back again soon! Great service also.

Everything about this place was spectacular! The vibe, the look of the place, the energy it gave off from the moment I walked through the door was amazing. Next on to the food. What else can I say, other than delicious. The salsa were full of flavor and the right amount t of spicy to it. When the combination of good prices and good food are both there. You know you found a place that will always be on your mind when you want to go out and eat. I cant forget about the drinks. When they make your drinks they are far from shy adding the reason we ordered a drink to begin with. This place did not disappoint not even in the slightest bit.

I ordered here again and I got the tamale and a taco. The taco disintegrated in the box and all the filling dropped out of it. The taco didn’t have any onions or cilantro. The meat was ok though. My tamale had the wrong meat inside it and it was super grainy. The flavor was ok. Everything was underwhelming. I don’t know what happened these past 2 months but it’s not good.

I ordered the regular combo with an enchilada and a Tamal, the pollo Diablo tacos, rib eye con Tuetano and the Mexican street corn. The portion sizes for everything were great! The salsas and sauces were super flavorful. The rib eye meat and the pollo chicken were a little dry. The bone marrow that came with the rib eye was good. The beans that came with the dishes was super good. The tamal was my favorite dish, the flavor and texture were awesome! The Mexican street corn was also delightful. Definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area!

El Sarape never disappoints! I ordered one of the chef’s specials, which had a delicious mix of brunch-style items — perfectly cooked, beautifully plated, and full of flavor. Every bite tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The combination of savory and traditional Mexican breakfast elements made it stand out from anything else I’ve had in the area.

The service was friendly and fast, and the atmosphere had that warm, authentic feel that makes you want to stay a little longer. Whether you’re in the mood for brunch, lunch, or dinner, this place is a must-try.

Highly recommend El Sarape if you want truly delicious, authentic Mexican food made with care! ✨
