Most delicious carne asada burrito in Cali according to my partner. It was smokey and cooked perfect. I had the fish burrito and the pineapple burrito and both were amazing.

The fries were very pale and lifeless, no flavor, not crispy. A shocking difference from the amazing burritos.

This place is amazing. The holiday decorations and music are on point and looks great. I cannot say enough about how good the food is and obviously the drinks are par to none. They’ve got you covered for every taste bud. The folks working are super polite and impressionable and very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Definitely stop in and say hi and grab some food or a drink. You won’t regret it!

Food was super good. Got a fish burrito and girlfriend got a 3 item plate. Reasonably priced, nice environment and tasty. Despite not being too busy, service was a little slow.

So full disclosure: I’d like to give them a 5/5 but just some minor annoyances(inconveniences) keep me from that.

First I’d like to say while I’m not a Poway native, I am a SD native so I can’t compare to the previous establishment.
The food flavor is BOMB. My wife and I had the Molcajete with a lobster taco on the side. Every piece of meat was cooked perfectly and the veggies/salsa paired worked perfectly. The lobster taco was also perfectly cooked with great tasting chipotle cream.

The small inconveniences are while the servers were kind and attentive, the service was just a tad slow. We got there for early dinner and the place was decently filled not overcrowded. Also there’s only one bathroom for the whole restaurant which depending on children and/or occupancy can get in the way. And lastly while our server definitely took care of us well, there were some details about the menu/specials he wasn’t fully aware of.

All in all, for the price, ambience, and relative smallish space, it’s a great a great date night or lunch spot. Maybe not so much for big families. I’d definitely come back to try other items.

I came to try out this restaurant for the first time on cinco de mayo. There wasn’t much of festivities when we got there around 4pm. There’s no Mexican vibe or music. We were told all tables were reserved but the host was able to find a table for us since we wouldn’t be there for too long.

We ordered a carne asada Fajita, a chicken burrito and a carnitas taco. The fajita and taco were good but chicken burrito wasn’t good at all especially when the lettuce was cooked and there’s some other meat other than chicken.

We ordered two margarita. They weren’t very strong. There isn’t really any cinco de mayo specials, just regular happy hour.

Our waitress was good and that’s why I gave 3 stars. I wish that place had more Mexican vibes.

I have to say that the experience I had tonight at Mexican Bar topped any experience I ever had at Mexicocina by far. I am a 51 year resident of Poway and there has been a shortage of good Mexican food for a very long time, and I am please to see that is no longer the case. I recommend the queso to accompany the tortilla chips and the surf and turf burrito! I asked if their patio was dog friendly and they confirmed that it is, so that will add them to our Sunday brunch options. My hat is off to the owners for bringing back a great sit down Mexican food option to our great town.
Our next stop will be the bar in the restaurant and I cant wait!

We had been to Mexico Cocina many times and had finally given up on it. Drove by last week and saw the signage had changed so we decided to give it a try.

Very glad we did! The inside and out have both been redone and are much better – nicer, more up to date. There are 5 chefs rather than only 1 so the food came out quickly. Our hostess and server were both nice and friendly.

The food was good. We both got a two taco dinner – mine was a fish taco and fish taco while my wife got a fish taco and chicken taco. The shrimp was great, the fish was a little “fishy”. Maybe if it was blackened it would be better? The chips were warm and the salsa was really good (both the red for the chips and the green for the tacos).

Anyway, I highly recommend this place. They are changing the menu as they settle in.

People giving this place good reviews must not know good food. They definitely did not try the enchiladas. It was so less than good. I got the enchilada combo plate, one shrimp, one chicken. The chicken enchilada was seriously a couple pieces of dry, overcooked chicken in a dry tortilla. Nothing else. The shrimp was basically the same. I could see where they put a very thin layer of enchilada sauce before it went in the oven but by the time I got it, it was completely dried up. Seriously the worst enchiladas I’ve ever paid for. The rice and beans were just okay. I don’t know how you can open a restaurant with this quality of food. Place was packed. I don’t get it. Maybe they’re all from Siberia and don’t know any better. But as a SoCal, San Diego native, this place is very disappointing.

Service was average. The waiter was friendly. But there will never be a day when I want to eat here again.

I’ll say, I am a picky eater. Usually I’m not impressed, BBUUUUUUTTTTTT
This food was great overall. The ingredients were fresh.

The chips: crispy
The salsa: flavorful
The carne asada: tender and cooked just right
The tortillas: soft like my mom’s home made
The rice: not dry, just right, good flavor

Hopefully this place grows and is able to maintain its quality.

The price was fair. (I’m also a very cheap person)

Very glad I live 5 minutes away. I will definitely be returning and inviting friends and family here.

We always look for family friendly, local businesses which have great drinks and beers. This place is exactly that! And decently priced!

Took our 18mon here and she enjoyed the salsa and quesadillas. Tacos and burrito were good as well. The quality of food, level of service (Amy is so friendly), and price point is spot on.
