Wes and Robin Maynard started in the Restaurant business in 1988 in the small western town of Breckinridge, TX. After 4 years operating in Breckenridge they sold their shares of the business so they could move back home to Weatherford and open a place of their own. The plan was simple- offer great food and friendly service at reasonable prices, and do right by your employees and the community, and success will come to you. The doors to the Mesquite Pit opened in April of 1993 and we try to reach those goals everyday. So please, sit back, get comfortable, and enjoy a great meal with our family, and let us know if you need anything. Because after all, The Mesquite Pit, first and foremost, belongs to you!

Amazing experience! Great service and a really nice atmosphere. The food was delicious — I ordered the chicken fried chicken with grits and asparagus, and my partner had the chopped brisket with barbecue sauce and some fried okra. We also got some onion rings, and the cornbread and regular rolls they serve were just perfect. Everything was flavorful and freshly made. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Called and ordered our food, was ready within 10 minutes. Their shredded brisket is really good. I did not like the banana pudding, the wafers were soggy. The mashed potatoes were ok, nothing worth finishing. The sausage was really tasty. The BBQ sauce was real good and added flavour to the mashed potatoes or sausage. My son loved the brisket, definitely worth getting.

Everything tasted wonderful. The Chicarones and homemade salsa were over the top good. This is the type of restaurant you can’t wait to return to to try the rest of the menu. The service was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Prices were what you would expect from a high quality meat featured dish.

The soup for today was chicken & rice, served hot and with crackers. House salad was fresh, chilled & mixed with carrots, tomatoes and cucumber. Had the grilled pork chop and it was thick, juicy and tender. I would have preferred it cooked at little less than medium. But it was very good and I’ll order it again. Shanda was an excellent server; quick, cheerful and attentive.

You have to visit this place. Every time I drove by it looked busy, but when we actually went, although the parking lot was completely full there was plenty of seating. The hostess was nice and set us at the table right away. The tables are the picnic style looking tables with the red and white checkers. Pretty cool.
We started out with an appetizer: sampler platter, choose three of the menu items. We chose the onion rings, which were beer-battered and flaky, incredible! The breaded mushrooms were perfect, and the fried pickles we’re just the right amount of sour.
Next we had dinner salads. They were just big enough and nothing fancy, but they were good.
Because we had to try it, we decided to get a second appetizer, but really it was one of the entrees. It was the smoked meat combo. On that combo where the pork ribs, brisket, and smoked sausage. All of it was moist and did not require barbecue sauce, although we decided to use the different kinds of barbecue sauce that were available.
I always order a rib-eye charred medium rare. I loved the spices on this one, almost a rub. The chef cooked it just right. And, there was a lot of marble fat on it, which I love. That’s why I always get the ribeye.
The chicken with seasoned well and was also moist. Sometimes chicken can be dry at places like this. I am pleased to say that it was just right.
You can’t go wrong with any of the sides. The asparagus was crispy, the baked beans were not too sweet, the coleslaw was fresh and crispy. And of course my favorite overall were the cheese grits, which were incredible. I spent a lot of time in the South growing up and I’m no good cheese grits when I taste them. These were pretty awesome. You have to try them.
Overall it was a great experience. I have seen this place as I drive by it frequently. I wanted to go for a long time but never was able to fit it into my schedule. I’m glad I did. I will be back.

We had such a great experience at Mesquite Pit in Weatherford. If you are looking for authentic Texas barbecue, this is the place to go.
The brisket was tender, smoky, and full of flavor. You can tell it is cooked low and slow the way it should be. The ribs were just as impressive and practically fell off the bone. Even the sides were amazing, especially the baked beans and potato salad. Everything tasted homemade and fresh.
The staff was friendly, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. Service was quick, and the atmosphere had that relaxed, small town Texas charm that makes you want to sit and stay awhile.

One of the best meals we’ve had in ages. Absolutely delicious, all of it! I’ve never tried grits before but those cheddar poblano grits are AMAZING. Biggest ribeye I’ve had in years. Yummy rolls , fresh delish salad with yummy homemade ranch….. SO GOOD.

Terrible experience. Service was slow, food was awful, and the attitude of staff leaves alot to be dedired. I had the chicken fried chicken and it was so dry. I did not know you could fry a chicken and it taste as dry as dessert sand, bur Mesquite pit found a way. My wife had thd brisket and it was very dry and the portion was small. My nephew had a raw onion ring and a foreign object in his gravy. When this was brought to staffs attention, they stated that some should be expected. I was in disbelief that staff would say that. I never expect to find a foriegn object in my food or for my food to be undercooked to a point where you see batter. As we were checking out, staff asked about how was everything. My nephew started telling them his issues and the lady stated they did not have time for it now. There was only three people in line to pay.
All I can say, we were very disappointed with the service, food, and staffs attitude. We will not go back.

My wife and I both really enjoyed the meal. The onion rings we got for an appetizer were perfect. I got three meat plate with ribs, brisket, and ham with croutons and garlic mashed potatoes. My wife got a baked potato. The sides were all great. The meat was all smoked to perfection. I enjoy the bbq sauce but the one served with the meal is not a sweet sauce. Not sure if they have a sweet sauce available because I didn’t think to ask since I was enjoying what was provided. I actually really enjoyed the difference as to what alot of places serve with BBQ in the area. Only thing that wasn’t perfect was the rolls and cornbread. They were just plain to me. My wife loved her potato and enjoyed the ham cubes and chicken that were a part of the meal.
