The tonkotsu broth is the star. Rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful without being overwhelming, it tastes like it’s been simmered with care and patience. You can tell this isn’t rushed food. The noodles have that perfect bite firm, springy, and clearly chosen to match the broth instead of just filling the bowl. Every component feels intentional.
The pork is tender and well-seasoned, not overly fatty, and it melts the way good chashu should. The soft-boiled egg is spot on, with a jammy center that adds depth instead of just decoration. Even the green onions and toppings feel balanced, enhancing the bowl rather than distracting from it.
What really stands out is how consistent and respectful the food feels. This is ramen made by people who understand the culture behind it, not just the recipe. It reminded us of late nights in Japan, ducking into small ramen shops, ordering quickly, and being blown away by how much flavor could fit into one bowl.
Service is fast & efficient and friendly, exactly what you want in a ramen spot. Menya Ultra isn’t trying to reinvent ramen they’re honoring it and that’s what makes it exceptional. If you’re looking for ramen that feels authentic, comforting, and genuinely memorable, this place delivers every time.
We waited for 20-30 min to get in and then waited just to get some drinking water to start. The check came pretty quickly though! Unfortunately this is not the Michelin restaurant standard that I expected.
The tonkotsu ramen had a rich and creamy broth. It was accompanied by a soft boiled egg, sliced green onions, a nice taste of chashu pork, and thinly sliced mushrooms. The standard serving size was quite filling.
The tantan men also had a rich pork broth with miso, sesame paste, chili oil, and other ingredients. The chili oil brought a nice heat that would be perfect for cooler winter weather. The sesame flavor throughout the dish was a nice touch. Enjoyed the noodles and broth with minced pork, an optional order of three chashu slices, green onions, mushrooms, and other goodies.
The fried chicken and pork gyoza was a nice appetizer. The outer wrapper was slightly crisp and chewy. The ponzu sauce had a medium body / thickness and a slight sweetness.
Menya offered a nice Japanese beer selection. The Sapporo and Orion beers were crisp and refreshing as we enjoyed the ramen dishes.
Noodles are legit though nice and chewy, exactly how they should be. Texture on point. Would love to see more plant-based options in the future, just to mix things up a bit.
Now, if you’re not vegan? You’re in luck. My friends went all in on the tantan and were raving about it. Also heard people around me hyping up the chashu like it was a concert headliner.
So yeah if you eat meat, you’ll probably love this place. If you don’t, it’s still worth a visit… just maybe not your new go-to.
I’m seriously disappointed after wanting to try this place for weeks. The taste is fine, maybe a 7/10, but nothing special at all. Barely a step above packaged ramen. How this place is rated so highly is beyond me.
I’m just deducting a star for their above average menu pricing and servers asking 20% plus tips which is wild since all they do is bring a bowl of ramen. I suggest kitchen serving ramen for customers dinning at the counter for ease and cut servers all together. Or get the vending machine ordering system most ramen restaurants have in Japan and shift towards self service.
