My friend & I came in for my birthday and the staff was great. They had a bday card for me, which was a nice touch but the best part was our bartender Shabaka, he really made my experience amazing! The food and drinks were great, thank you for a wonderful experience.

Mel’s Speakeasy at Commission Row was such a great find. We were overnighting in Indianapolis and stopped in after walking to another bar that just wasn’t our vibe. A quick Google Maps search led us here and we’re so glad it did.
The atmosphere is chill but still energized, relaxing without feeling sleepy. Our server Ari had amazing energy and a fun, lively personality that made the experience even better. The food and drinks were both excellent too.
We’ll absolutely be back the next time we’re in Indianapolis.

We went to mels after the pacer game to end our night with a drink. We had the best server I’ve ever had. His name was Shabaka. From someone who has worked in the restaurant industry in Chicago and Indianapolis for years, he was exceptional. The service industry needs more Shabakas, he was attentive, great energy, charismatic and made us feel important. He deserves 10 out of 5 stars, he went above and beyond. I’d also like to add the bartenders at Mel’s were also amazing. This place is blessed with a great staff and we will be returning. The Cunningham group keeps amazing me.

After an amazing dinner upstairs, we stopped by Mel’s Speakeasy for a nightcap. The cocktails were fantastic — beautifully crafted and delicious. The space itself is truly captivating, with cozy, elegant décor and a unique, intimate vibe. Service was a bit less attentive than we’d hoped, but still friendly. Overall, a beautiful spot for a drink and a memorable way to end the evening!

This place is pretty cool! I’ve had the opportunity to come in during slower hours and also when it is booming with customers and every time I am well taken care of. There is two awesome bartenders who are almost always there, Shabaka (who is such a cutie) and Heather. They are both well versed in cocktails and can always create exactly what my palette is wanting, their classic menu cocktails are delicious as well but I love to see what bartenders can create.
I will say food flavors have gone down a bit, as well as management has changed multiple times since they first opened but the drinks, my two favorite bartenders and the atmosphere with the live music down there have all gotten better and better!

Unsure of our NYE plans due to the cold weather, we made a last-minute decision to spend it at Mel’s—and we’re so glad we did! The ambiance was perfect, with live music that set the mood without overpowering our conversation. The attention to detail from the manager and the bartenders was exceptional, making the experience truly stand out. To top it all off, the Champagne & Caviar added the perfect touch of finesse to welcome the New Year in style.
