I was born in Hollywood, California at the Kaiser down the street from this place and never eaten here. I got to enjoy dinner here on a weekday. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Server did an excellent job attending to our every need. Super friendly. Food was very delicious a must try if you’ve never been here. Kids meals come in these classic car cardboard boxes kids would really enjoy. Left content and wanting to return.

We had a fun time stopping into Mel’s for a quick meal. It has a great atmosphere with classic diner vibes. We ordered a Tuna Melt, Reuben, and French Dip, plus a side of French fries—the fries were especially good. For dessert, we shared the chocolate cookie with ice cream. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall, a fun and nostalgic meal.

Mels Drive-In on Sunset Boulevard is an absolute classic and one of my favorite spots in L.A.! From the moment you walk in, you’re hit with that nostalgic diner vibe, cozy booths, and great music that instantly puts you in a good mood.
Everything we tried was amazing, but the braised beef grilled cheese deserves a special shout-out, it was perfectly crispy on the outside, loaded with tender, flavorful beef and melted cheese. Total comfort food heaven!
The staff were friendly and attentive, even though the place was busy, and the service felt genuinely warm. The milkshakes and fries were also fantastic, exactly what you’d hope for in a classic American diner.
Whether you’re visiting L.A. or a local looking for that old-school Hollywood charm, Mels Drive-In is a must. Great food, great energy, and that perfect mix of nostalgia and fun.

It has to be five stars. We felt very comfortable. The service was extremely friendly and prompt. It was excellent and of very high quality. It’s clean, and the decor is magical. Back to the 1950s.

So fun. Had a friend visiting for a week from Virginia and it was her 1st time on the west coast. Our waitress was perfect and I believe she has worked there for 30 years or something like that. She was so fun. My visitor also loves the Selling Sunset show and Mel’s is right across the street from the Oppenheim Group. So that is an added bonus if anyone is in to that. We actually ended up visiting Mel’s twice that week. Stop in and try a yummy shake, and enjoy the ambiance
*The only picture I took was of my friend in front of the Oppenheim Group, across the street from Mel’s

Food is delicious but waitresses took forever to refill water or ask if we wanted anything else and also took forever to bring us our check

We ended up here since there weren’t many places around our hotel, and it turned out to be a great choice. Good portions, tasty food, and a classic American diner vibe. We enjoyed the happy hour beers too.

Iconic American Diner with Classic Vibes
We had brunch at Mel’s Drive-In on Sunset Boulevard after visiting the Walk of Fame, and it truly felt like stepping into a classic American diner. The retro interior is iconic, and they offer free valet parking, which is convenient in that busy area. It was very crowded during brunch hours, so the service was a bit slow, but the staff was friendly.
The milkshake was a standout—super delicious! My daughter and I had French toast, which was okay but not exceptional, while my husband really enjoyed his biscuits and gravy with eggs. Overall, the atmosphere and experience were memorable, but the food and prices didn’t fully live up to the hype.
