I had to fit a lot of errands, on my”to do” list this day. After my shift, I needed to get laundry done, get a bite to eat& get ready for an upcoming event. Melba’s , is the “go to” for a quick bite & fast wash. I have a particular diet& the very sweet woman asked me what I meant, by my order instructions. I explained and got exactly, what I requested. Such awesome, service. I gave the food a three star, because Im not exactly use to so much grease& I know it’s probably just me. Either way… awesome concept here& good food

The food was pretty mediocre however the staff was soooo friendly and I absolutely love what they stand for with providing books and for me that compensated for the food. There’s also a laundromat attached. I thought that was pretty cool. You can do a load and grab a bite.

I was visiting NOLA and it was getting late and I wanted to taste some authentic fare. Glad I found Melba’s!!! Food arrived very fast via Uber Eats and was actually pretty doggone good!! I love the smoked sausage and the jambalaya. Will def eat here again if I ever come back.

Im a regular customer at Melbas
They’re the only place to get greens with no pork that I know off..
And I dont usually give poor reviews. However being a non pork eater for 40+ years now.
The nonchalant attitude of the manager who claims to be Muslim, has made me come to maps.
I ordered a TURKEY po boy
End up eating a few bites of a HAM po boy!!
Drove all the way back!
Asked for the manager.
The manager acted as if I was wasting his time. And said “God will forgive you.” “Just pray, is it a religious thing?”
“You got your monet back right.”
As if the money was the fix all.
I spent the money to get a sandwich I could eat. Getting the money back and eating pork was not the goal.
I said its a choice but I made me sick. I just want to report to you in case it get serious.
He says “that’s why we have insurance.” smh
Im explaining that im beginning to get symptoms. He’s says you’re OK. Then he says” i think pork is dog meat.”
But you’re acting like its no big deal that I ate it!!!??????
No more Melba’s for me!

I appreciate what Melba’s stands for putting books, reading material and imagination back into the world but the food needs a little help. My husband ordered two bacon cheese burgers well done for him and his brother with the vegetables on the side on toasted bread and it comes with fries. I ordered a three piece chicken tender meal and it also comes with fries. They didn’t have white gravy but that’s just the Texas in me they did have several other sauces but I did not order any other sauces. We ordered it to go and we waited about 30 minutes which is expected in New Orleans for good food. I didn’t even take pictures of the food that’s how disappointed we all were. For the burgers, it came as a double meat patty, there was no bacon, no seasoning, no flavor. It was two thin gray patties like from a school cafeteria, that were not well done and the toast was just light bread not even toasted. For my tenders they were fresh and hot with pretty good flavor but the chicken was pink on the inside the fries for all three meals were soggy and had no salt. We ended up throwing $35 worth of food in the trash.

The chicken tenders were fresh and good. Everything else was edible, but nothing I would go out of my way to suggest unfortunately. The strong push for books and reading was very cool. The staff was nice.

Well we were washing clothes next door and stepped over. Was gonna try corn grits since never had them. The menu clearly states white or corn grits 12 oz 1.49. Well the girl at register where clearly seems like she wasn’t happy to be there working and talking so low couldn’t hear her. The customer in front of me even had to ask you to repeat what she said. Anyways she told me the total was 6.99. So I passed on the corn grits. Lol.

Pretty disappointed by my most recent visit (I’m a local who even does laundry here sometimes)..
1. kiosk says they will text you when your food is ready. They don’t. They just yell out your name. Which is fine if you are INSIDE. I was outside waiting for a “text” that never came.
2. If you want instant Type 2 diabetes, then I recommend the red beans and rice (mostly rice). I mean, DAMN. Does it have to be SO salty??
3. The hamburger was the most bland mediocre thing I’ve eaten in a while, plus they didn’t put it on the brioche bun that I paid an extra $1 for either. Oh well.
Takeaway- if you’re super drunk and it really doesn’t matter anyway, this place is fine (if not a little overpriced). Do better Melba’s. A little more effort on your part would go a long way towards living up to that claim of being ’one of best blah blah in America’ that blasts out of your PA system.

Let me be very clear: this place has always been mediocre at best, but after my last visit during Bayou Classic weekend, I’m done for good. They will never get another cent from me.

I came in with friends to grab a to-go order. We ordered, sat, and waited. My friends got their food first, then mine was supposedly ready. I went to the counter, grabbed the bag with my name on it, and walked out. Before I even made it across the parking lot, staff came running outside with security, acting like I was stealing food. Completely unprovoked, completely unnecessary, and honestly insulting.

I calmly handed the bag back and went inside to figure out what happened. And guess what? No apology. No explanation. Nothing. They couldn’t even find my order in the system. Then they demanded a receipt from a damn receipt machine that was broken and that didn’t print anything when i took my order. All I had was the charge already posted to my credit card, which I showed them, and the so-called manager still didn’t care. He refused to remake my food and refused to refund me. Pure negligence and disrespect.

This place has a long history of complaints from Black customers about how they’re treated, and after what I experienced, I believe every one of those complaints. On top of that, the food is trash. Absolutely nothing about this establishment is worth your time, money, or patience.

Save yourself the headache. I’ve already filed a fraud claim with my credit card company because that’s the only way I’m getting my money back.

Avoid this place at all costs.
