My friend and I had an excellent time “Mekateando” here. We ordered café con leche, pandebono, buñuelos, and relleno de papa. The foodstuff was delicious. We learned a bit about the pastries’ names and what those names meant in our respective Latin American countries. Service was prompt, friendly, and welcoming.

Happen to be on the Northside of Chicago and wanted some bread so googled Colombian bakery and Mekato’s popper up and wow it did not disappoint. The pan de Bono was so soft and chewy and cheesy. The empanadas were outstanding and the arepa with cheese was fantastic (although the arepa was a choclo arepa and not arepaharina) will definitely go back to try the breakfast and another round of pan de Bono.

Whenever I’m in the area I make my way to Mekatos for some coffee, a buñuelo, or a pan de bono. I’m Colombian so growing up my grandfather used to make Colombian treats and this place makes them just like I remember them. I also highly recommend the papas rellenas they are very tasty and very filling

Recently renovated and improved their order and pick up stations. The fried goods are very authentic and tasty! I highly recommend their chicharones (fried pork belly), empanadas con pollo (chicken filled pie), and the best item was the arepa con queso (corn bread with cheese). Arepa had the best hint of sweetness.

$10 for 1 of each, sweet and friendly staff, and only took 5 min to get my order in a Sunday at 12pm. It had a long line of 5 people in front too. Highly recommend this place for a quick bite!

The older lady who works there added in a $12 tip for herself and I thank God I had a copy of my receipt to show proof. Be careful!
