My husband and I wanted a special dinner for our anniversary without going to a chain type of restaurant. Since we were visiting the area I searched and found Mee Heng Low/Noodle House. I read the reviews and the little voice in my head said “yes, go here”. Well, my little voice was absolutely correct!! The food was amazing, I ordered the Twice Cooked Pork and my husband ordered the Chow Mein with chicken/plum sauce, we also ordered pot stickers and one bao. The flavors created were fantastic! The bao was incredible! The filling was perfectly seasoned and the texture was great. The pot stickers were a great mix of soft/crunchy with a great filling.
On to the stars of the show. The Chow Mein was fantastic, with a great presentation and lightly fried noodle base. A unique preparation that really worked.
The Twice Cooked Pork was my favorite!!! The pork was seasoned with love and care and very tender, the vegetables tasted fresh and were cut in a way to compliment each bite. If I lived in SLO I would be in trouble because it’s that good!!!!
The restaurant is small and the menu is limited. We’ll, so what. If what you are making is as wonderful as what we ate, I am OK with the menu. Quality over quantity is very true. The food is amazing and the portions were big enough that we had leftovers.
We live 5 hours away, and I brought my leftovers home. I just heated up the pork (we were there 2/26/26) and it was still amazing 2 days later!
10/10!!

I really wanted to like this place as I love the history. However it took 45 minutes to get my food when it was not busy. Other parties were also waiting a long time. The twice cooked pork was tough, too salty and the noodles were under cooked, The steamed BBQ pork bao look malnourished. The server was very friendly. I will give them a second chance.

This is a hidden gem. Purportedly this is the oldest Chinese restaurant in the United States. You’ll find classic old style American Chinese, like chow mein and chop suey alongside bao and dumplings. Everything we had was really well prepared and delicious. The decor is kitsch and has a throw back charm with red lacquer walls sand vintage lighting. We loved the whole experience.

A small hole in the wall restaurant beside the Palm Theater is a good lunch experience. We shared the pot stickers for appetizer which was perfect. My Sai Fun salad was fresh and delicious. I had a side of chicken which was thinly sliced, warm, and slightly crispy. Yummy dish. My friends both had Lo Mein. One had the spicy peanut sauce the other tried the ginger soy. Both dishes were nice portion and deemed very good. The iced tea was very nice.

I went on a Wednesday arriving around 1:00 p.m. There was only one other table in the restaurant. Service was slow and the organic tea was served in lukewarm water. I don’t know which was worst, swatting flies through out the meal or the dried barely edible noodles that were uncooked. I ordered the twice cook pork and it came dead on arrival and definitely cooked more than twice. The Low Mein my wife ordered was filled to the brim with over cooked vegetable and barely any noodles. We came because of the good reviews and boy, were they wrong.

From web information then come here today.
Stay besides window to feel the east culture in a guilt country town.
Pork dumpling is the first show up, I am so surprised the soft dumpling skin which mix chili oil, it makes me feel I’m in paradise.
Noodle is the second after I finished dumpling for a while. The taste is perfectly bouncy. Pretty similar feeling with Axia..
I will come back again next time.

Visited SLO, enjoyed dinner at Mee Heng Low Noodle House in Historic China Town. Ordered the Chicken Potstickers and Twice Cooked Pork and washed it down with a Firestone Premium Lager. Did not need to add soy sauce to the pork. Seating is limited, friendly courteous staff, worth a visit.

Not worth the money. Bottom line. Prices say 10 bucks online then you get there and its 14 and 16 bucks??? I was asked to pay over the phone on venmo before I got there. Very strange. Wonder if it helps in cheating people out of their money. When we got home we saw the serving size was half as much as expected. There was barely any chicken or vegetables and the noodles did not have a fresh texture. Sauce tasted like soy sauce they were trying to pawn off as there own. Huge dissapointment. Then I tried to call the place back just to let them know as some constructive criticism but the chick working there just said thank you for your feedback and hung up before I was done. Wish I wouldn’t have tipped her $1.30 on $58.18 dollar tab. We got 4 things.
