What an amazing little place. The young woman who waited on us was very knowledgeable. Our luck had it that they had just gotten gluten-free beignets in that day. It looked more like a doughnut, but tasted amazing. We were also able to get the chicken Poboy with potatoes, all gluten-free.

Fantastic vegan menu with tons of options including gluten free meals. The vegan food was filling and freshly prepared. We ordered the red beans and rice, crab cakes, the crab poboy, and the beignets and loved it all. The crab cakes especially were divine and packed with flavor and the beignets dipped in coffee were otherworldly delicious.

Let me preface this by saying I have been here multiple times. Let’s start from the beginning. On a tourist journey, I stumbled upon this cafe and fell in love. It was engagement at first sight of the menu. I was first lured in by the name and was sold on the list of offerings shared on the menu.

The menu was complex, yet simple in my opinion. What made it complex? The different options of crafted cuisine varying from non-vegan to vegan. This cafe blends New Orleans traditional staples with vegan variations. How intriguing right? I opted for the vegan crab cake with the Remoulade sauce and it has now become my go-to. Just to name a few, there are other things like beignets and po-boys that are delicious. This cafe truly cooks from the heart and soul. Please give them a visit and you’ll be able to check out the French Market as well. Talk about a two for one special lol or feeding two birds with one scone. ( That’s my PETA approved idiom )

I was so excited to find New Orleans food that was vegan! I ordered the vegan Po Boy & it was amazing. My husband ordered the regular one & also loved his. We actually had to go up & ask which one was vegan since they both looked so similar. We got vegan beignets that were life changing. I wish we lived closer so I could eat here all the time!

My experience at Meals From the Heart Cafe was surprisingly excellent! My Shrimp Poboy that I ordered was well-seasoned. I thought it would be fried, but the shrimp was grilled. Then, they gave me a side of seasoned potatoes that didn’t disappoint! I hadn’t heard of this restaurant on social media, but give it a try if you’re in New Orleans in the French Quarter.

A French Market staple I eat every every time I visit. Everything is good but if you’re looking for vegan beignets they got ‘em. The vegan crab sliders are to die for.

Walked 20 minutes to get “gluten-free beignets”. What I got was what looked like pre-made doughnut, tasted fine, but had nothing to do with a beignet, that was cold and served in a plastic box. I said “I thought you got 4 pieces” and the clerk said “not with gluten-free. It’s a doughnut”. I went back and asked them to microwave it for me and they did. The “restaurant” is just a stand in a market, although there are tables outside you can sit at. Thankfully I ordered a smoothie, but paid $18 for a doughnut and a smoothie. The smoothie was real fruit and almond milk so I appreciated that. And apparently vegan hemp protein.
