The Meadows Original Frozen Custard got its start in the summer of 1950 when J.V., Richard and Delbert Meadows opened a small custard stand in Duncansville, PA. Lines over fifty people deep formed immediately. It was an instant success and remains a great success to this day. Now considered a tourist attraction, the Duncansville location is still in operation and owned by Dick, Jay and Joel Meadows, sons of Delbert. Demand for the smooth, frozen treat has caused franchises to pop up, each individually owned and operated. Over fifty years later each Meadows location still serves the same recipe that got its start in 1950 and has kept our business successful for over fifty years. Now we are in Latrobe, Pa

For example, I got the butterfinger and cream as the flavor of the day today. Hardly any butterfinger in it. And I don’t even know what the cream part is – I would guess Oreo’s for ‘cookies and cream’, but none of that in here. It’s like that every, single, time.
Staff was probably ordered to cut back on add-ins to save the (Sharky’s) owners $$$ so they can stuff their pockets even more.
I would stick to standard custards at this location if you order from here. Never have this issue at other Meadows locations.
This is the Meadows located in Latrobe, not to be confused with its exceptional sister store in New Alexandria. Unlike the store in New Alexandria, the experience here was a classic example of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. So, let’s start with the Good, shall we? The Meadows is a local custard shop that prides itself on good, nay, very good custard, along with friendly and efficient customer service. The custard itself here is top-notch, thick, creamy, and simply delicious – you really can’t go wrong with custard and they do it right.
Now, the Bad – the service was wonky to say the least. Groups that entered after my wife and I got their orders before we received ours, and some of their orders were very similar in style and selection to what we had asked and paid for. How does that happen? It makes no sense how an order placed 5-minutes earlier would come out 5-minutes later than a separate order placed 5-minutes ago. How? I have no idea.
Which takes us to the Ugly – to be fair, my wife’s order did come out eventually, and it came out as requested and she loved it. As for my order – it became an odyssey to get to it. Not only did we watch other groups order their custard, get it, and then leave, but I had been asked not once, not twice, but three times what I had ordered so they could get it “right to me.” Even so, after repeating three times (four if you count when I told them at the register) what I had ordered – it still came out wrong. At that point, I took what I got and we left before anything else could happen. I will say what I got was good, even though it wasn’t what I wanted.
I think I’ll be sticking to the New Alexandria store for my custard fix for the foreseeable future…
