We discovered McGregor’s Butcher and Bistro in Overland Park through KC Restaurant Week, and we’re so glad we did. They’re relatively new—only around three years—and already delivering an outstanding dining experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredible: attentive, friendly, and welcoming. The bread and butter served before dinner was absolutely delicious and set the tone for the meal. We also enjoyed a couple of their craft cocktails, which were beautifully balanced and just as impressive as the food—thoughtfully made and full of flavor. I ordered the crab cakes, and they were phenomenal—easily some of the best I’ve had. The steaks were cooked perfectly and so tender they could be cut with a butter knife. Restaurant Week introduced us to a new favorite, and we will definitely be returning.

Wow this place was phenomenal! We went for restaurant week and we were not disappointed! The steaks were incredible and the seafood was too. We all love crème brûlée and it was SO good. We will definitely be back! Staff was professional and friendly. Was easy to get in and around in a wheelchair and they have tables with chairs that are easily removable.

Visited for restaurant week. The filet was delicious and cooked well. It did have a gravy type sauce on top, which was good but seemed odd to top a good steak with a gravy. The portions were a tad smaller than expected but I didnt leave feeling uncomfortably full so that’s good.
The service was pretty slow. Not sure if we had a newer server or not. Dessert took forever to come out and mine had a substitution on it that I was unaware of. The server didn’t catch it and had said she was unaware and the kitchen didn’t tell her.

We had a great time at McGregor‘s. It was a unique experience because it was connected to the butcher shop. The bistro has only been an operation for a couple of years and it had a great menu. It included a flight of steaks that were delicious and fun! The butcher shop closed before we finished our dinner, but they still helped us find some meats to buy before we left. They were very accommodating and I highly recommend this operation as a place to visit if you’re looking for a great buy a variety meats, enjoy a nice meal, or both!

First time here and I am impressed! The food and service was outstanding! My husband ordered the French onion soup and the French dip. I had the beet salad and the Steak Dorados. We shared the Lemon Blueberry crumble. Everything was delicious. To top off the evening Ron Gutierrez was playing in their bar area. Outstanding performance! We will definitely be back again soon.

Absolute banger of a Chicago dog in my opinion & I’ve tried them all over the Midwest! Didn’t skimp on anything. Loads of toppings (look at all those peppers), high quality hoagie-style bun, and the food was pretty quick. I’ll definitely be coming back again because the pastrami looked really good as well. Bistro seating could be tight if it’s busy, but that adds to the traditional deli vibe. Loved my visit. Thanks!

Very nice restaurant with friendly wait staff. My cocktail was strong, which was nice. The meatballs were pretty good. I did not care for the garlic steak bites. They came in a bowl full of juice and looked and tasted more like stew meat. Something in the seasoning didn’t sit right with me either. Teriyaki maybe? And the crostini was laid in the juices so it became completely soggy. My husband really enjoyed his house salad. The steaks were pretty good, except we had to send one back for being way under done. The French fries were delicious as well as the au gratin potatoes.

Alison and I enjoyed breakfast this past Sunday at McGregor’s Butcher & Bistro. While we were enjoying our breakfast sandwiches, Tom, aka Tommy the Butcher, told us we needed to try their restaurant, which is located right next to the Butcher & Deli. He mentioned that every Tuesday night, they have Burger specials. For $18, you get a burger of your choice, fries, and draft beer or, as in my case, a soda.
It just so happened that we were out last night and decided to stop in. I have to say it was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had this year. Our server, Sarah, was excellent, helped us with tons of advice, and truly made us feel special.
Alison enjoyed the Mushroom Cheeseburger, and I had the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger. They were both phenomenal. The meat all comes from their own butcher shop. The burgers tasted great, and the bacon was crisp and to die for. The fries were also fantastic, especially the truffle fries. We also enjoyed an appetizer of Gralic Steak Bites, and they gave us some warm, locally made Farm To Market bread with some house-made butter that was awesome.
Lastly, I want to add that the entire experience was relaxed, and you can taste the care and love they put into the dishes. With the check, they also gave us each a complimentary shortbread butter cookie that was out of this world.
Alison and I would like to thank Tom and Sarah, and everyone else we interacted with at McGregor’s. We look forward to visiting them again in the near future. It’s truly a special small business that we wish we had discovered sooner.
Sidenote: The Deli and Butcher side is open Tuesday-Sunday, 8:30 am to 3:00pm. I also look forward to trying a deli sandwich in the future. Tommy told me I have to try the Pastrami on my next visit.

Food was great (especially the salmon). Cocktails were well executed although a bit on the sweet side. Service was polite if somewhat aloof. Decor tries to steer toward a more elegant vibe, although that vibe is seriously thrown off by the two huge TVs mindlessly playing sports that nobody cares about. If they’d lose the TVs, I’d come back. *Note, this review is for dinner in the restaurant, not the deli*

This is a fabulous hidden treasure! The food is amazing – steaks top-notch – and the restaurant has an elegant and refined ambience. It is a perfect choice for intimate, unhurried conversations and to celebrate special occasions or have a romantic dinner. I was surprised to find such a beautiful restaurant behind a butcher / sandwich shop! I’m glad I was introduced to this place – we’ll be going back often.
