We didn’t book a table and went in on the last Saturday before Christmas, we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table.
The service was great and friendly, the food was amazing really tasty and was probably the only homemade style meal we had in New York.
I felt the overall bill was a little high, but ypu get what you pay for.
We all really enjoyed it and would go back again.
Let me start with the positives: the vibe is actually nice. Cozy, lively, and you can definitely imagine Ted and the gang sitting in a booth nearby. The food was OK, not amazing, not terrible, just somewhere in the “it does the job” category.
Now to the part that completely ruined the experience. This place feels extremely touristic, almost to the edge of feeling exploitative.
A 20% tip was automatically added to our receipt, along with an extra card fee, without anyone clearly informing us beforehand. Since when did tipping become something the restaurant decides for you? The whole point of a tip is that it reflects how the customer feels about the service. Here, apparently, they evaluate themselves.
When I pointed out that I never agreed to a 20% tip, the waiter casually said, “It’s automatic in the system.” I’m sorry, but “the system” is not a justification. Then we were told this is “typical in Manhattan.” Interesting, because I visited several other restaurants in Manhattan and somehow managed not to encounter this “tradition.”
After calling the manager and listening to several minutes of circular explanations, they generously agreed (how kind!) to reduce it to 10%. Honestly, with that attitude, the appropriate tip felt closer to 0%.
It’s disappointing because this place has such a fun legacy attached to it. But somewhere along the way, it seems they forgot what hospitality actually means.
My advice to fans of the show: go in, take your photos, enjoy the nostalgia… and maybe have your actual meal somewhere else.
It’s a shame, but the whole experience felt more like taking advantage of tourists than honoring loyal fans.
Hello, we have been here 3 times.
I am always amazed by this beautiful and idyllic bar.
There is delicious food and drinks of all kinds here.
I’m a huge fan of “How I Met your Mother” and that’s why this bar is a must on every New York trip.
I love this fantastic atmosphere.
It always feels good to be here, where the idea for ‘How I Met your Mother’ came from.
You can be sure that you can expect first-class service here, very friendly and accommodating.
Good price-performance ratio.
Be sure to come here, it’s worth it every time.
That wasn’t the last time we were here.
We will definitely be coming back 100%.
Highly recommended.
Until next time and have fun here.

The food was okay, nothing to complain about, and the beer was fine. The service was also fine, and luckily they still had room for one more person 🙂
