Went jere because of the (loose) connection to the tv show.
We didn’t book a table and went in on the last Saturday before Christmas, we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table.
The service was great and friendly, the food was amazing really tasty and was probably the only homemade style meal we had in New York.
I felt the overall bill was a little high, but ypu get what you pay for.
We all really enjoyed it and would go back again.

I visited McGee’s Pub, famously known as the bar that inspired How I Met Your Mother. As a fan of the show, I was genuinely excited to experience a little piece of TV history.
Let me start with the positives: the vibe is actually nice. Cozy, lively, and you can definitely imagine Ted and the gang sitting in a booth nearby. The food was OK, not amazing, not terrible, just somewhere in the “it does the job” category.

Now to the part that completely ruined the experience. This place feels extremely touristic, almost to the edge of feeling exploitative.
A 20% tip was automatically added to our receipt, along with an extra card fee, without anyone clearly informing us beforehand. Since when did tipping become something the restaurant decides for you? The whole point of a tip is that it reflects how the customer feels about the service. Here, apparently, they evaluate themselves.
When I pointed out that I never agreed to a 20% tip, the waiter casually said, “It’s automatic in the system.” I’m sorry, but “the system” is not a justification. Then we were told this is “typical in Manhattan.” Interesting, because I visited several other restaurants in Manhattan and somehow managed not to encounter this “tradition.”
After calling the manager and listening to several minutes of circular explanations, they generously agreed (how kind!) to reduce it to 10%. Honestly, with that attitude, the appropriate tip felt closer to 0%.

It’s disappointing because this place has such a fun legacy attached to it. But somewhere along the way, it seems they forgot what hospitality actually means.
My advice to fans of the show: go in, take your photos, enjoy the nostalgia… and maybe have your actual meal somewhere else.
It’s a shame, but the whole experience felt more like taking advantage of tourists than honoring loyal fans.

As a big fan of HIMYM, I had to make a stop by here! It was so much fun seeing all of the framed photos of the cast from the show hung around the bar. The HIMYM themed drinks were fun, and we got some good bar food snacks to hold us over til dinner. Definitely worth a stop if you’re a fan of the show, or just want a nice little pub to stop in!

My cousin and I came to this pub during out holiday and I can’t rate it high enough! I want to give a special thank you to Joy, Andrew, Allison, Justine and Ciara who made us both feel so welcome, they laughed and joked with us, looked after us extremely well. It was as good a service we could ask for… so we came back every night of our trip! When we came in the second time Joy, one of the bartenders, immediately recognised us and started laughing and having jokes with us right away, and getting us both a beer just as quick! Andrew was also just as brilliant, having jokes with us all night, making sure we both had plenty to drink, and giving us brilliant recommendations off the menu. Allison, Justine and Ciara are also just as amazing, their hard work didn’t go unnoticed to us both and yet again they joined in with the laughing and joking, even teaching us some American jokes!! Some amazing memories have been made here purely down to how excellent the staff are here, I could not recommend it higher

Hello, we have been here 3 times.

I am always amazed by this beautiful and idyllic bar.

There is delicious food and drinks of all kinds here.

I’m a huge fan of “How I Met your Mother” and that’s why this bar is a must on every New York trip.

I love this fantastic atmosphere.

It always feels good to be here, where the idea for ‘How I Met your Mother’ came from.

You can be sure that you can expect first-class service here, very friendly and accommodating.

Good price-performance ratio.

Be sure to come here, it’s worth it every time.

That wasn’t the last time we were here.

We will definitely be coming back 100%.

Highly recommended.

Until next time and have fun here.

I’m a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, and I had been wanting to come to this place for a long time. I absolutely loved the experience. The drinks were delicious, and the bartender was very attentive. There was no waiting time since I sat at the bar. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming.

The fish and chips were good. I got it to go. It came with tarter sauce and coleslaw. The coleslaw tasted like it had too much mayonnaise. The meal came on a bed of mixed lettuce to absorb the oil and the fish and chips was still crunchy when I opened it about 8 minutes from when I left the restaurant. The waitresses were really friendly. The wait was about 10 to 15 minutes from ordering to getting my meal. The atmosphere was fine on the first floor. I did not go to the upper 2 floors.

I actually came here by chance when I was looking for something to eat and drink. It turned out that this pub is slightly inspired by How I Met Your Mother, the popular sitcom. There are nice touches that remind you of it, such as various signed posters and the familiar benches from the sitcom.

The food was okay, nothing to complain about, and the beer was fine. The service was also fine, and luckily they still had room for one more person 🙂
