However, one issue really stands out. The indoor soda machine is in terrible shape and the soda has been flat for what feels like a solid year. The machine itself is clearly outdated. The McDonald’s in Tewksbury has the newer mixology system, and it’s top tier — easily the crispiest McDonald’s soda I’ve ever had.
Considering this location was just updated, it would be great to see Wilmington get that upgrade too.
Here’s what happened:
I used the kiosk to order several promotional items. The kiosk did NOT show any 15-minute limit, so the order went through normally. I had no idea that it wasn’t allowed. Then a manager came over and told me:
“You can’t order any promotional food from the kiosk anymore. There should be a 15-minute limit between promotional orders, otherwise you will be kicked out.”
That sounded reasonable, so I didn’t argue. My wife and I switched to mobile ordering, following the 15-minute rule exactly. We even used two different accounts—one for each of us—since we were two people.
But after only 2–3 mobile orders, another staff member (a woman) came out and told us we were being kicked out, even though we clearly explained that we were following the rule the first manager gave us.
To make things worse, they refused to refund the order I had already placed.
I understand they have the right to decide whom they serve. However, they should clearly explain their rules and be consistent. Different McDonald’s locations have different policies, and unfortunately this one seems to be run in a very confusing and unprofessional way.
I usually hate drive thru because the people seem unhappy and unkept. it makes me feel uneasy about eating the food they prepared. But this was the opposite experience.
